    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the extrudability of an Al-Mg-Si based Al alloy by provid ing an Al-Mg-Si based Al alloy in which a crystallized substance consisting of Al-Fe-Si compound is α-phase and a precipitate consisting of Mg2 Si and a precipitate consisting of Si oxide are not present practically. SOLUTION: In an as-crystallized state at the time of casting and solidification, β-AlFeSi is formed. Because β-phase is a brittle compound, picking-up is caused at the time of extrusion and seizure resistance is deteriorated. By performing soaking treatment at prescribed temp. for prescribed time, the β-phase is transformed into α-phase. Because an Mg2 Si precipitate is a brittle compound and causes picking-up at the time of extrusion, hardening is applied from the prescribed temp. to reduce it. As a precipitate consisting of Si oxide causes picking-up and it is produced when soaked at high temp. and then cooled slowly, hardening is done, e.g., by water cooling to make it disappear. By this method, the occurrence of picking-up at the time of extrusion can be prevented.
