    • PURPOSE:To extend the life of a discharge electrode and to stabilize discharge by changing the polarities of a voltage impressed to the discharge electrodes for each discharge of one connection. CONSTITUTION:Spark discharge is caused between the electrodes 3 by the voltage of a high voltage part 6 and a switching part 8 flows a DC current from a low-voltage part 7 to the electrodes. The switching part 8 consists of a switch maneuver 10 associated with a discharge start switch 9 or the series circuit of a diode 11 and a high resistance 12 connected to the voltage part 6. The capacity and weight of a transformer for an electrode power source are reduced greatly, but discharge in the same direction of the electrodes is caused by the DC discharge current and only one electrode wears remarkably, so a switch 13 which changes the polarities of the voltage impressed to the discharge electrodes 3 for each discharge of one connection is added and operated associatively with the discharge start switch 9 to prevent only one electrode from wearing.

    • PURPOSE:To enable connection with high accuracy by using a plug of a simple construction by joining by melt sticking the ends of both optical fibers to be connected to a standard optical fiber having high dimensional and shape accuracy, and positioning the end face of the standard optical fiber on the end face of the connector plug. CONSTITUTION:The end faces of respective optical fibers 4, 4 are joined by melt sticking to optical fibers 9, 9 of a core 6 by using the length at which the light loss of the core 6 having a standard optical fiber 9 of high dimensional and shape accuracy is negligible in connection of the optical fiber cores 3, 3 of optical cables 8, 8.     • PURPOSE:To form a reliable reinforcement part for optical fiber connection by heating the reinforcing member from its inside and shrinking a heat-shrinkable tube, and fusing hot-melt adhesives and uniting the tube with an optical fiber connection part. CONSTITUTION:The heat-shrinkable tube 1 contains a hot-melt adhesive tube 2 and a stiff tube 3 which is not molten and also serves as a tensile force body while the both are arranged lengthwise. This tube 3 made of the stiff reinforcing member is used to reinforce the optical fiber connection part. In this case, the heat-sealing connection part 5 of a single-core or multicore optical fiber core 6 is inserted in the heat-shrinkable tube 1, e.g. in the hot-melt adhesive tube 2, or in the tube 1 and outside of the tubes 2 and 3, and an electric resistance heater 4 is inserted into the stiff tube 3.
