    • PURPOSE:To reduce the friction coefficient and thrust between rolls, and to prevent bearing troubles, by shifting the timing of stopping the injection of a rolling oil during the idle time after a rolling material runs out of the rolls. CONSTITUTION:The period of feeding a rolling oil into an idle time is prolonged by 5 and 20 seconds even after the tail end of a rolling material runs out of rolls, and also the rolling oil sticking to the rolls is washed out by a roll cooling water, before the following material is bitten by the rolls, to increase friction coefficient. At that time, if said timing is prolonged by 25 seconds till the feed of oil is made off, the effect for washing out the oil is reduced, and slip is caused when the following material is bitten.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease the excessive thrust force acting on work rolls by providing power transmission devices which permit the movement of the work rolls in their axial direction in place of thrust bearing devices for the work rolls of a roll cross rolling mill. Power transmission devices 5, 6 which transmit torque and are adjustable in length, for example, splined shafts which absorb the axial movement of the work rolls, are provided. The upper work roll 1 and a backup roll 3 as well as the lower work roll 2 and a backup roll 4 are held in the positions where the axial centers are in parallel with each other and in this state the axial centers of the upper and lower paired rolls are crossed within the horizontal plane, and a plate material is rolled with such rolls. If relative slips are to arise in the axial direction between the work rolls and the plate, the rolls 1, 2 move axially so as not to apply any relative slip on the plate W.

After the tip of the rolling material 1 is bitten into the following rolling mill, said gap is set to a regular roll gap.
