    • PURPOSE:To improve response to a large extent, by the constitution wherein a heat transfer heater and the contact part of a temperature dependent resistors and a supporting body are coated or separated from air. CONSTITUTION:An electric heater 1 and first and second temperature dependent resistors 3 and 2 are connected to an electric circuit. A bridge is formed by the temperature dependent resistors 3 and 2 and two fixed resistors 9 and 10. Since the first temperature dependent resistors 3 is subject to the effect of the heater 1, the balance of the bridge is lost. The electric circuit always applies a current to the heater so that the amount of unbalance becomes constant. With this current as an output, the amount of air is measured. An electric insulator 6 is provided so that a contact part 5 of a supporting body 4 and a platinum resistor wire is coated or separated from the flow of the air. Thus, the temperature change at the contact part of the supporting body and the platinum resistor wire can be meade small, and the response can be improved to a large extent.

    • PURPOSE:To enable reliable burning off of carbon of an ignition plug pocket part, by a method wherein a high voltage for removing smoking is varied by means of a voltage varying means and is applied on an ignition plug. CONSTITUTION:With an ignition switch 5 switch ON, a timer 10 causes a relay 9 to motion for a specified time. Thus, during running of an engine, a normal ignition system is actuated and is brought into an ignition state. During a specified period right after a stop of an engine, different high voltage sources 1 and 2 are actuated, a lowermost voltage, being low enough to prevent the occurrence of discharge in a regular gap is applied on an ignition plug 13, intense discharge is generated at a smoking part, and carbon is dispersed for combustion. A power fed to high voltage sources 1 and 2 is regulated between the relay 9 and the high voltage sources 1 and 2 for removing smoking through a voltage controller 15, and a voltage applied on the ignition plug 13 is changed at a given period. In which case, discharge is produced at an optimum voltage in the middle of a fluctuation to reliably remove smoking.
