    • A submersible used for exploration of the sea or other purposes includes a hull (1) made up of three outer shell sections (2, 3, 4). A first outer shell section (2) has one open end through which a second outer shell section (3) having front and rear open ends is inserted into the first outer shell section (2) for horizontal movement. A third outer shell section (4) is inserted into the second outer shell section (3) through the rear open end for horizontal movement. Packings (7) are applied between the first and second outer shell sections (2, 3) and between the second and third outer shell sections (3, 4), respectively. Either one or both of the second and third outer shell sections (3, 4) are moved outwardly and inwardly by actuators (5, 6) so that the net displacement of the submersible is increased and decreased. By moving the third outer shell section (4), the center of gravity of the submersible may be transferred so as to be positioned beneath the center of buoyancy. Each propeller (16) for underwater cruise includes a cylinder (18) into which high pressurized fluid is fed, a piston (19) reciprocally moved by the force of the high pressurized fluid, and drivers (17) for propelling water in response to reciprocal movement of the piston (19).
