    • The invention relates to a method for detecting the validity of downlink control information in telecommunication user equipment and to a decoder and baseband receiver designed to perform that method. The object of avoiding falsely detecting payload data and misinterpreting them is achieved by reverse encoding a bit output sequence of a Viterbi decoder; determining hard bits from a soft-bit input sequence of the decoder; determining a bit count of real received bits; comparing the re-encoded bit stream to the determined hard bit stream and counting the number of mismatches to obtain an error count; comparing a bit error rate which is defined as a quotient of the error count and the bit count against a predefined threshold value; and rejecting the payload as invalid if said bit error rate is above said threshold value, even if a cyclic redundancy check of the payload gives a correct result.

    • The present invention is directed toward the recovery of RFID signals from RFID credentials. The recovery and subsequent interpretation of RFID signals may be accomplished by providing a set of predetermined probabilities for the occurrence of a symbol after another symbol in a received signal. The predetermined probabilities may be dependent only upon the encoding scheme used, thereby providing a more robust and less processor intensive decoding protocol than has previously been contemplated. The RFID signal may be a FM0 encoded signal. The recovery of the RFID encoded signal is achieved by determining the maximum-likelihood path through a trellis (maximum likelihood sequence estimation, Viterbi decoding).
