摘要： A decoding method is provided for a decoding device of a specific error-correction coding system. An encoding device of the specific error-correction coding system has m registers. An initial state of the m registers is set as the values of least m significant bits of control information. Steps of the decoding method are described as follows. The decoding device receives a symbol sequence output from the encoding device (FIG. 1, S101). A Viterbi algorithm is performed on the symbol sequence to generate a decoding sequence (FIG. 1, S103). Based on the decoding sequence, a path merit of a state corresponding to the decoding sequence is updated, and/or path merits of other states not corresponding to the decoding sequence are updated (FIG. 1, S105).

In the coding apparatus mounted on the transmitting apparatus (100), a control information rearranging section (130) receives as input a control information sequence, in which a plurality of control information blocks are arranged in a predetermined order, and forms a coding processing target sequence by rearranging the order of the plurality of control information blocks to form an assembled sequence grouping control information blocks comprised of predictable bit sequences in the plurality of control information blocks, and to allocate the assembled sequence to a predetermined position in the control information sequence. Further , an encoding section (140) encodes the coding target sequence using the tail-biting convolutional coding scheme.

摘要： A concatenated coding scheme using an outer Reel-Solomon error and erasure connecting code and a short maximum likehood decodable inner code such as a Viterbi code. The rate m/m+1 of the innercode is matched to the symbol-side m of the outer Reel-Solomon code. This concatenated channel coding technique well suited for small or variable size packet data transmission systems. The technique may also be adapted for use in a continuous mode data transmission system. The present invention advantageously performs concatenated channel coding without the necessity of a symbol interleaver. In addition, the present invention is simple to implement and thereby consumes much less space and power that do the prior art approaches. The present invention not only eliminates the need for a symbol interleaver between the outer and inner codes, but it also enjoys a drastically reduced implementation complexity of the inner code Viterbi decoder. An embodiment of the present invention comprises an inner code having short length block codes derived from short constraint length convolutional codes utilizing trellis tailbiting and a decoder comprising four four-state Viterbi decoders having a short corresponding maximum length. The inner code preferably comprises short block codes derived from four-state (i.e., constraint length 3), nonsystematic, punctured and unpunctured convolutional code.

摘要： A method and system for decoding tailbiting convolution codes are disclosed. A set of tailbiting convolutional codes is encoded by a convolutional encoder having multiple encoding states. A first starting score is assigned to each of the encoding states. A Viterbi algorithm is then performed once on the tailbiting convolutional code to associate an ending score with each of the encoding states. A subset of these encoding states is subsequently selected, within which the ending score of each encoding state meets a certain criterion. The Viterbi algorithm is again performed on the tail biting convolutional code for each encoding state within the subset to determine the best encoding state as the most likely initial encoding state for the tailbiting convolutional code. A Trellis path of this most likely initial encoding state is utilized to decode the tailbiting convolutional code.
