    • The fly height of read/write heads in multiple disk drives is dynamically adjusted to optimum fly height by a servo loop. The fly height is sensed in real time with a harmonic ratio fly height detector and compared to an optimum or reference fly height. The suspension system of each head is adjusted in accordance with the departure of the fly height of that head from the optimum fly height. The adjustment of the suspension system is accomplished by bonding a piezoelectric film to the flexible suspension arm carrying each head. The fly height is corrected for both radial and circumferential error as the head changes radial and circumferential position relative to the disk surface. The reference fly height, to which each head is moved by the servo loop, may be selectively changed in the fly height servo operation. This can be done to lift the heads away from the disk surface during track seek mode or disk drive sleep mode. The reference fly height can also be changed to lower the heads towards the disk surface during error recovery mode.

    • The present invention relates to a paper sheet counting apparatus including a hopper in which a plurality of paper sheets are filled in a stacked state, a transport mechanism that feeds the paper sheets filled in the hopper to a transport path one by one, and transports the paper sheets along the transport path, a sensing unit having at least a counting sensor for counting the paper sheets and a recognizing part for recognizing the paper sheets, and a stacker in which the paper sheets fed from the transport path are stacked.
      The transport mechanism includes a drive roller constituting an inside of a turn portion for changing a direction of the transport path, a plurality of pinch rollers that bias the paper sheet against an outer peripheral surface of the drive roller, and a turn guide plate arranged between the pinch rollers to guide the paper sheet along an outer periphery of the drive roller. The turn guide plate is formed such that a front edge of the paper sheet transported to the turn portion is guided to a contact portion between a pinch roller arranged on a downstream side among the pinch rollers and the drive roller.
      The transport path has a bent portion formed on an upstream side of the counting part and the recognizing part so that a thin and hard foreign article other than the paper sheets cannot pass therethrough.

    • An air bearing slider according to the present in­vention provides a programmable slider wherein the fly height of a the read/write head may be conveniently controlled using electrical signals. In an air bearing slider according to the present invention, the rear of the slider is made to fly lower by altering the angle of attack of a rear air bearing region. In one embodi­ment of the present invention, a slider configuration includes a first air bearing region (31) at the leading edge of the slider and a second air bearing region (32) at the slider's trailing edge. The first air bearing region includes a tapered region (37). A deformable central region (33), including a non air bearing surface, joins the first and second air bearing regions and controls the relative angle between the air bearing surfaces. The relative angle is adjusted by deforming the central region using a layer of e.g. piezoelectric material which overlays the central region. A conventional read/write head is placed on the rear portion of the second air bearing region.
