    • The invention provides a negative pressure air bearing slider which comprises a slider body for flying above a surface of a recording disc during relative rotation of the recording disc, the slider body having a principal surface for confronting the disc surface, the principal surface having a lead portion, a rear portion, a first side portion and a second side portion, wherein the lead portion is spaced upstream of the rear portion relative to a longitudinal direction of the slider body which is coincident with a tangential rotational direction of the recording disc, and wherein the first side portion is spaced from the second side portion relative to a lateral direction of the slider body; first and second projections extending from the lead portion of the principal surface of the slider, wherein the first and second projections are spaced apart from each other in the lateral direction of the slider body, each of the first and second projections defining a central negative pressure air cavity and a forward negative pressure air cavity for the slider body, and a third projection extending from the rear portion of the principal surface of the slider body at a position centrally located in the later direction of the slider body, the third projection having a transducer mounted on a rear edge so as to establish pseudo contact with the disc surface while the slider body is flying above the disc surface.

    • A head slider for a recording disk drive comprises a slider body (22) having a leading edge (29) and trailing edge, a pair of rails (27, 28) formed on the slider body (22) and extending to the trailing edge, a pair of front projections (33) formed on the rails (27, 28) near the leading edge (29) respectively, a pair of rear projections (34, 35) formed on the rails (27, 28) at a predetermined distance from the trailing edge respectively, and a pair or rugged surfaces (36, 38) formed on the rails (27, 28) near the trailing edge respectively.
      With this head slider, it is possible reliably to avoid a failure in starting the recording disk rotating. Less torque of the spindle motor of the recording disk drive allows the recording disk to start rotating normally.

    • A magneto-optical recording device has a flying head that floats over a magneto-optical disk according to the rotation of the magneto-optical disk. The flying head includes a head slider (11). A solid lubricant (13) is applied to the bottom surface of the head slider facing the magneto-optical disk. Since the solid lubricant makes the flying head contact with the magneto-optical disk smoothly, the scratching and wear of the magneto-optical disk and the flying head decrease. Therefore, the reliability and the durability of the magneto-optical recording device can improve. Physical protrusions and recessions or holes containing fluorocarbon oil therein may be formed instead of the solid lubricant. In this case, the contact area between the flying head and the magneto-optical disk is also smaller than the case where physical protrusions and recessions are not formed. In addition, with a configuration such that thin-film layers made of a fluorocarbon resin having an excellent lubricity are formed on both sides of the bottom surface of the head slider, since the magneto-optical disk comes into contact with the head smoothly, the reliability and the durability of the magneto-optical recording device can improve.
