    • A document processing apparatus which can hyphenate the input document information and can display and print the hyphenated document in the same form is provided. This apparatus comprises: a memory device (4) having a document memory unit to store character code information corresponding to input document information and a hyphen inserting position memory unit (36) to respectively previously store the hyphen inserting position information of each word consisting of a set of the character code information stored in the document memory unit; a display unit (6) to display the input document information; line end input detecting circuit to detect the line end character by sequentially monitoring on a character unit basis the document input generating state of a word exceeding the line end on the display device during the document inputting operation; and display control circuit (5) for referring to the hyphen inserting position information stored in the hyphen inserting position memory unit after completion of the input of the word in which the character detected by the line end input detecting circuit is used as an element, for inserting a hyphen character into the word exceeding the line end on the display means, and for separately displaying this word on two lines through the hyphen.

    • The invention concerns a system for the automated analysis of words composed of several components. Such analyses are required, for example, for text correction or syllabification by means of a computer system. For this purpose, the computer system decomposes the compound word into its components and compares the compound word letter for letter with components stored in its memory. The memory also contains rank orders indicating a component's probability of occurrence in a compound word. If the computer finds a match between a stored component and letters of the compound word, it checks the probability of occurrence of this component within the compound word. By means of this probability information, the computer system decides whether the component is "correct" or "incorrect", i.e. whether the compound word has been correctly or incorrectly decomposed. Further information for verifying the decomposition of a compound word consists of a rank order stored in the memory of the computer system and indicating for each number of letters of a compound word the most probable number of components contained therein. Rank orders of the above-described kind are used by the computer system to decompose a compound into its components quickly and correctly.

    • There is disclosed a text processing apparatus allowing easy line-end process, namely division of a line-end word and hyphening. If a word at the end of a line exceeds the area of display or printing, the word is automatically transferred to a next line, but a part of the word that can be returned to the end of the original line is identified, and the operator is rendered possible to insert a hyphen after that part. Upon insertion of the hyphen, the above-mentioned part is returned to the end of the original line, and the remaining part of the word is displayed on the next line. In this manner the hyphening of line-end word is made easy on the display, and the print can be obtained in the form as displayed.

    • A document data processing apparatus including: a device (10, 18) for entering original data; an editing device (40) for editing the original data into edited data; and a device (42, 56, 94) for displaying a document corresponding to the edited data. The editing device including: a device (40, 72) for storing the original data; a device (84, 40, S6, S11-S13, S103, S104) for producing the edited data representing a plurality of character lines arranged within a document zone between a left and a right margins (LM, RM), by automatically moving each word (96) which would otherwise be positioned in each character line to intersect one of the margin lines or to follow a word terminating within a hot zone (Hz) adjacent to the one margin line, to the following character line; a device (22, 40, S14, S15) for selecting one of the character lines; a device (40, S1, S2, S100, S101) for splitting the automatically moved (AM) word in a line following the selected line, into a front and a rear character row, such that a number of the characters of the front row (102) is not more than a maximum number of the characters which would be permissible to locate in the selected line without overrunning the margin line in a supposed situation in which the AM word (96) were not moved, and moving the front row to the selected line; and a device (23, 40, S4, S7-S9) for changing the split position (104) at which the AM is splitted into the front and rear rows.
