摘要： Desired nonlinear optical effects are induced by light having high peak power through the use of light pulses from a semiconductor laser, but without the use of light pulses from a titanium-sapphire laser or other large-scale solid-state laser having high mean power. A semiconductor laser pulse beam (with a repetition rate of 1 MHz, for example) that has a wavelength of 1550 nm [and is emitted] by a semiconductor laser (laser diode (LD)) 15 is efficiently amplified in a two-stage (pre and main) EDFA 20, 40. An optical filter 30 removes the optical noise component caused by spontaneous emissions. Second-harmonic light pulses, which are generated by the nonlinearity of an optical device (periodic polarization-inverting Mg-doped LiNbO 3 (PPMgLN)) 50, are extracted from the amplified pulsed light by an optical filter 60, and supercontinuum light in the 800 nm wavelength range is generated from a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) 70.

摘要： An object is to provide a compact apparatus and a method for generating wavelength-tunable short optical pulses, which apparatus and method can change the wavelength of generated pulses without adjustment of an optical system and enables generation of ideal femtosecond soliton pulses.
The apparatus includes a short-optical-pulse source (1), an optical characteristic regulation unit (2) for regulating characteristics of light output from the short-optical-pulse source (1), and an optical fiber (3) for receiving input pulses from the optical characteristic regulation unit (2) and for changing the wavelength of output pulses linearly. Short optical pulses are input to the optical fiber, so that new soliton pulses are generated in the optical fiber due to its nonlinear effect. Further, the nonlinear effect enables the wavelength of the soliton pulses to shift linearly in accordance with the intensity of input light.
