摘要： A light irradiation apparatus (1) is provided with a laser light source (10) for generating laser light; a light source (20) for detection light, for generating detection light having a prescribed wavelength; an optical fiber (30), which permits the laser light to be inputted from one end surface (30a) and to be outputted from the other end surface (30b) to irradiate an object (3), permits the detection light to be inputted from the end surface (30a), and has an FBG (32) in the vicinity of the end surface (30b) for reflecting light having a prescribed wavelength; a light detector (50) for detecting intensity of detection light, which is reflected by the FBG (32) and outputted from the end surface (30a); and a signal processing section (60) for detecting irradiation status of the object (3) with the laser light, based on the detected intensity of the detection light. The laser light generated from the laser light source (10) has a wavelength other than that reflected by the FBG (32).

摘要： A method determines a complex reflection impulse response of a fiber Bragg grating. The method includes providing a measured amplitude of a complex reflection spectrum of the fiber Bragg grating. The method further includes providing an estimated phase term of the complex reflection spectrum. The method further includes multiplying the measured amplitude and the estimated phase term to generate an estimated complex reflection spectrum. The method further includes calculating an inverse Fourier transform of the estimated complex reflection spectrum, wherein the inverse Fourier transform is a function of time. The method further includes calculating an estimated complex reflection impulse response by applying at least one constraint to the inverse Fourier transform of the estimated complex reflection spectrum.

摘要： An optical waveguide (1) has a grating structure (2) in which gratings of different orders are superimposed. When first and second order gratings are superimposed, input light is partially reflected by the first order component and partially coupled out of the waveguide by the second order component. The second order component can also be used to couple external light into the waveguide (1). 摘要： A method for forming a grating in a photosensitive medium (18) such as a photosensitive optical fiber. The method comprises impinging a pair of interfering, actinic beams (15, 16) onto the medium, and during the impinging step, advancing the illuminated portion of the interference pattern relative to the medium. The advancement is carried out without changing the phase, or registration, of the interference pattern. According to one embodiment of the invention, a grating (40) having a spatially dependent period chirped grating is produced by varying the wavelength or the intersection angle of the actinic beams during the advancement. The intersection angle may be varied with a curved mirror. According to a second embodiment of the invention, a grating having a spatially dependent refractive index perturbation is produced by varying the dose of actinic radiation received by the medium during the advancement.

摘要： A bearing comprises a Bragg grated optical fiber to measure one or more parameters of the bearing such as load, temperature, acceleration/vibration and identification. To be able to fit as many Bragg gratings as possible, the utilization of the corresponding frequency plane output is optimized by having low bandwidth next to large bandwidth sensors in the frequency place. The corresponding physical sensors such as load sensors on a bearing will not be adjacent. Sensors in the loaded zone are giving a high bandwidth output and sensors in the un-loaded zone are giving a low bandwidth output, thus even though these are not physically adjacent, the corresponding frequency areas are adjacent by appropriate grating.
