摘要： Provided is an optical waveguide with an inscribed Bragg grating, where the Bragg grating is stable at high temperature, has low scattering loss and high reflectivity. Also provided is a method for inscribing a Bragg grating in an optical waveguide, the method comprising irradiating the optical waveguide with electromagnetic radiation from an ultrashort pulse duration laser of sufficient intensity to cause a permanent change in an index of refraction within a core of the optical waveguide, where the irradiating step is terminated prior to erasure of a Bragg resonance, and heating the optical waveguide to a temperature and for a duration sufficient to substantially remove a non-permanent grating formed in the optical waveguide by the irradiating step.

The sensor utilizes logic to detect a uni-axial pressure applied to the fiber that shifts a reflection wavelength of a first Bragg grating polarization state relative to a Bragg reflection wavelength of a second polarization state orthogonal to the first polarization state.

摘要： A sensor system (10) and method for monitoring a powertrain (20) having a drive shaft (1). The sensor system (10) comprises an optical fibre (2) with a strain sensitive element (3). According to one aspect, a connection structure (4) is configured to hold at least a part of the optical fibre (2) with the strain sensitive element (3) at a radial distance (R2-R1) remote from the drive shaft (1) for amplifying the strain (S2) on the strain sensitive element (3) with respect to the strain (S1) on the drive shaft (1). According to a further aspect, at least three respective lengths of one or more optical fibres follow parallel, e.g. helical, paths with respect to each other to distinguish different strain forces.

摘要： There is provided a vibration detection apparatus and a vibration detection method. A vibration detection apparatus 1 includes a ring-shaped optical fiber 4, a fiber Brag grating (FBG) 6 and a detection system 3. The ring-shaped optical fiber 4 generates a laser beam propagating a ring shaped optical path. The FBG 6 is disposed in the ring-shaped optical fiber 4 such that the laser beam enters the FBG 6, and has a transmittance distribution characteristic of transmitted light in a wavelength direction, which changes in accordance with vibration of an object. The detection system 3 detects the vibration based on the transmitted light through the FBG 6.
