    • It is customary to produce gearbox housings, in particular for motor vehicles, from a light metal or a light-metal alloy, such as for example aluminium or an aluminium alloy. The aim of the invention is to provide a gearbox housing consisting of a light metal or a light-metal alloy, the weight of said housing being further reduced and said housing exhibiting improved flow and cooling characteristics during production. To achieve this, the light metal or light-metal alloy is magnesium or a magnesium alloy and transversal ribs (17) extend from the radii (16) of the rounded sections. The invention thus relates to a gearbox housing consisting of magnesium or a magnesium alloy for an automatic gearbox of a motor vehicle.
