    • According to one embodiment, a sheet transport apparatus includes an upstream-side transport unit (2) configured to hold a sheet (P) and transport the sheet (P) by rotating; a downstream-side transport unit (4) configured to hold the sheet (P) and further transport the sheet (P) by rotating, the downstream-side transport unit (4) being arranged at such a position that an unrestrained transport section (3) is formed where the sheet (P) is not held downstream in transport direction from the upstream-side transport unit (2); an upstream-side air-feed unit (5) configured to form an air flow that flows downstream in transport direction on both sides of a transport plane of the sheet (P) in the unrestrained transport section (3); and a controller (9) configured to control the upstream-side air-feed unit (5) to start forming an air flow before a leading edge of the sheet (P) reaches the unrestrained transport section (3) from the upstream-side transport unit (2), and to stop the air flow before at least a trailing edge of the sheet (P) has reached the unrestrained transport section (3).

    • An object of the invention is to provide a banknote storing/feeding unit (23) which is capable of effectively utilizing winding spaces of a drum (37) and a reel (38), to increase the number of banknotes (34) to be stored. The banknote storing/feeding unit includes the drum which winds and rewinds a banknote together with a tape (36), and the reel which winds and rewinds the tape on and from the drum. A guide body (41) swinging according to winding and rewinding of the tape and the banknote on and from the drum is provided between the drum and the reel. The guide body has a guide passage (43) that guides the tape and the banknote to be wound and rewound on the drum. The guide body swings centering on a supporting point (41a) located within a region (A) parallel to a virtual line (L1) connecting a rotational center (47) of the drum and a rotational center of the reel.
