    • A computer-implemented method for detecting air loss in a vehicle tire (3), the method comprising measuring a time series of air temperature values inside the vehicle tire (3); measuring a time series of air pressure values inside the vehicle tire (3); selecting a first group of air temperature values and a second group of air temperature values; selecting, a group of air pressure values; deriving a first air temperature value based at least in part on the first group of air temperature values and deriving a second air temperature value based at least in part on the second group of air temperature values; deriving an air pressure value based at least in part on the group of air pressure values; calculating an estimated air temperature value based at least in part on (i) the derived first or second air temperature value, (ii) the change in temperature between the derived first and second air temperature values, and (ii) a predetermined time constant; calculating an estimated normalised pressure based on the estimated air temperature value and the derived air pressure value; and determining if air loss has occurred based at least in part on monitoring said estimated normalised pressure over time.

    • A method of operating a monitoring system to provide pressure warnings associated with a tyre of an aircraft. The monitoring system comprises a flight deck display (15) on a flight deck (16) of the aircraft and a processor (12). When the aircraft is stationary, the processor (12) operates in a maintenance mode (24) in which the processor (12) receives a first pressure measurement indicating a pressure of the tyre; compares the first pressure measurement with a maintenance mode low pressure threshold, and causes the flight deck display to display a low pressure warning associated with the tyre if the first pressure measurement is below the maintenance mode low pressure threshold. When the aircraft is in motion, the processor (12) operates in a flight mode (26) in which the processor (12) receives a second pressure measurement indicating a pressure of the tyre, compares the second pressure measurement with an abnormal pressure threshold which is lower than the maintenance mode low pressure threshold, and causes the flight deck display (15) to display an abnormal pressure warning associated with the tyre if the second pressure measurement is below the abnormal pressure threshold. When the processor (12) is in the flight mode (26), if the second pressure measurement is between the maintenance mode low pressure threshold and the abnormal pressure threshold, then the processor (12) does not cause the flight deck display (15) to display a low pressure warning associated with the tyre, so the flight crew is not distracted.

    • A method of checking the pressure of a tyre of an aircraft. A pressure reading is taken from the tyre with a pressure sensor and wirelessly transmitted to a hand-held device. The hand-held device receives the pressure reading, an aircraft ID which uniquely identifies the aircraft, and a tyre ID. The device then retrieves from a memory a reference pressure level associated in the memory with the aircraft ID and the tyre ID; compares either the pressure reading, or an adjusted pressure based on the pressure reading, with the reference pressure level; and displays a warning if the pressure reading, or the adjusted pressure based on the pressure reading, is below the reference pressure level.
