    • An object of the present invention is to provide a wheel bearing apparatus which can prevent generation of cracks during the face spline forming process. The present invention provides a wheel bearing apparatus in which a double row rolling bearing and a constant velocity universal joint are detachably united, the double row rolling bearing comprising an outer member formed on its outer circumference with a body mounting flange to be mounted on a body of a vehicle and its inner circumference with double row outer raceway surfaces; an inner member including a hub wheel and at least one inner ring, the hub wheel being integrally formed with a wheel mounting flange on its one end and an axially extending cylindrical portion and the inner ring being press-fitted onto the cylindrical portion of the hub wheel, the inner member being formed with double row inner raceway surfaces to be oppositely arranged to the double row outer raceway surfaces; and double row rolling elements rollably disposed between the double row outer raceway surfaces of the outer member and the double row inner raceway surfaces of the inner member; the inner ring being axially immovably secured by a caulked portion formed by plastically deforming the end of the cylindrical portion radially outward; the constant velocity universal joint having an outer joint member including a cup-shaped mouth portion, a shoulder portion forming a bottom of the mouth portion, and a shaft portion axially extending from the shoulder portion and formed on its inner circumference with female thread all of which are integrally formed; and end faces of the shoulder portion of the outer joint member and the caulked portion being formed with face splines respectively to join the double row rolling bearing and the constant velocity universal joint in a torque transmittable manner characterized in that the face spline of the caulked portion has a portion in which a tooth height of the tooth space of a portion radially outer than the pitch circle diameter is set lower than that of other portions.

    • The invention relates to a wheel hub rotary joint arrangement with an axis of rotation (A), comprising a wheel hub with a wheel flange for connecting a wheel and a sleeve section for receiving a wheel bearing, a constant-velocity rotary joint with an outer joint part (1), an inner joint part and torque-transmitting elements. The outer joint part (1) has a first spur gearing section (2) with first teeth (2a) at the end facing the wheel hub, and the sleeve section has a second spur gearing section with second teeth at the end facing the constant-velocity rotary joint, the two spur gearing sections engaging with one another for torque transmission. Said wheel hub joint arrangement further comprises tensioning means for axially tensioning the wheel hub against the outer joint part, said tensioning means being axially supported on one side on the wheel hub and on the other side on the outer joint part. At least one of the two spur gearing sections is designed such that, viewed in the radial direction, the first and second teeth (2a) initially only contact with one another on a small subsurface of the tooth surfaces facing one another during axial tensioning of the arrangement, and this subsurface increases in size during further tensioning. The spur gearing sections (2) are designed such that, viewed in the radial direction, the first and second teeth (2a) initially contact with one another on the radially inward side during axial tensioning of the arrangement and as tensioning increases also contact with one another on the radially outward side, for which purpose a substructure (1a) of the sleeve section having the teeth (2a) and/or of the outer joint part is designed to be more easily deformable in a radially inward region (R

    • An object of the present invention is to provide a wheel bearing apparatus which can reduce the torque applied to the splined portion of the hub wheel and thus can improve the durability of the hub wheel. According to the present invention there is provided a wheel bearing apparatus comprising an outer member integrally formed on its outer circumference with a body mounting flange adapted to be mounted on a knuckle of a suspension apparatus and on its inner circumference with double row outer raceway surfaces; an inner member including a hub wheel and at least one inner rings, the hub wheel being integrally formed on its one end with a wheel mounting flange and with a cylindrical portion axially extending from the wheel mounting flange, the inner rings being press-fitted onto the cylindrical portion of the hub wheel via a predetermined interference and formed on their outer circumferences with inner raceway surfaces corresponding to the outer raceway surfaces of the outer member; and double row rolling elements freely rollably contained between the inner and outer raceway surfaces of the inner and outer members via cages characterized in that a hardened ring-shaped gear member is mounted on an end of the cylindrical portion of the hub wheel, the gear member being formed on its outer circumference with a gear portion and on its inner circumference with a splined portion engaging a hub-splined portion formed on the outer circumference of the cylindrical portion of the hub wheel; that both a contacting surface of the gear member and a contacting surface of the inner ring being abutted against each other are ground; and that the inner rings are axially immovably secured under a condition in which a predetermined amount of a bearing pre-stress is applied to the inner rings via the gear member.
