摘要： A valve to perform lung volume reduction procedures is described. The valve is formed of a braided structure that is adapted for endoscopic insertion in a bronchial passage of a patient's lung. The braided structure has a proximal end and a distal end and is covered with a non porous coating adapted to prevent flow of air into the. A constricted portion of the braided structure is used to prevent flow of air through a central lumen of the structure, and to define at least one funnel shaped portion. The funnel shaped portion blocks the flow of air towards the constriction, i.e. towards the core of the lung. At least one hole is formed in the braided structure to permit flow of mucus from the distal end to the proximal end, to be expelled out of the lungs.

摘要： A medical valve transitions between an open mode that permits fluid flow, and a closed mode that prevents fluid flow. To that end, the valve has a housing with an inlet and an outlet, and a rotating member with a member channel. The rotating member is rotatable to cause the valve to transition from the closed mode to the open mode after insertion of a medical implement into the inlet. The member channel fluidly communicates the inlet and the outlet when in the open mode. The medical valve also has a resilient member biasing the rotating member toward the closed mode. The rotating member slides along the resilient member when rotating between the open mode and closed mode.

摘要： A speaking valve assembly (2, 200) for fitting to the machine end (13) of a tracheostomy tube (1) has a one-way valve (23, 236) that allows inhalation but prevents exhalation. The assembly further includes a pressure relief arrangement that remains closed during normal respiration and vocalisation but opens when pressure in the assembly rises above a normal level. In one arrangement the pressure relief arrangement takes the form of a ball valve (30) with a ball (32) that is lifted away from an opening (31) by excess pressure but falls back to block the opening when pressure reduces. An alternative pressure arrangement has a slidable collar (226) that normally covers vent apertures (223) in a housing (220) of the assembly. When pressure in the assembly rises above a normal level the collar (226) is pushed out to expose the vent apertures (223) and allow air to escape.

摘要： Disclosed herein is a fluid infusion device of the type that delivers medication fluid to the body of a patient. The device includes or cooperates with a fluid reservoir, and the device has a sealing assembly to receive and form a fluid seal with the fluid reservoir. A retractable sealing element surrounding a hollow fluid delivery needle may be used to seal a port of the fluid reservoir. The port may include a pressure vent that is sealed by the retractable sealing element. In one variation, the reservoir includes a moving valve sleeve that holds a septum. The septum moves to allow the reservoir to vent, and to form a seal with the port when the needle pierces the septum. In another variation, the device includes a needleless sealing assembly. In yet other variations, the device uses a needled fluid reservoir.
