摘要： A thin absorbent composite is provided wherein a nonwoven support sheet is hydro-entangled with a carded fiber web to provide a nonwoven substrate. The nonwoven substrate is coated with an absorbent layer comprising microfibrillated cellulose-coated superabsorbent polymer particles. A cover layer is placed above the absorbent layer to provide the absorbent composite. A process for manufacturing the absorbent composite and an absorbent article containing the absorbent composite are also provided.

摘要： An absorbent article is disclosed for absorbing body fluids such as urine, menses, blood, excrement, etc. The absorbent article includes a liquid-permeable cover (36), a liquid-impermeable baffle (38) and an absorbent positioned therebetween. The absorbent is constructed of first (44) and second (46) members each having a predetermined width, with the width of the first member being equal to or greater than the width of the second member. The second member is positioned below at least a portion of the first member. The second member has a higher wicking capability than said first member and this facilitates movement of body fluid in a horizontal plane throughout the second member. The body fluid present in the second member will then be transferred back into the first member over an area equal to the saturated area of the second member. The second member can comprise more than one layer, with the layers separate and distinct or formed by folding a single sheet of tissue one or more times.

摘要： A method of making a curved absorbent article, such as a sanitary napking is provided. In one embodiment, the method comprises placing the components of the absorbent article on a curved surface and securing the components while they are in a curved configuration. In another embodiment, the absorbent article is curved by stretching an elastically extensible component of the absorbent article and securing the extensible component to another component while the extensible component is extended, then allowing the extended component to retract. The absorbent article is, thus, curved without the use of separate elastic strands.

摘要： Curled, twisted cellulosic fibers are reduced in size by mechanical means, i.e., by refining. The refined fibers are formed into sheets which are used as an absorbent layer in diapers, bandages and, especially, in sanitary napkins. In one mode, the refined fibers can be used to provide shaped sanitary devices. In an optional mode, fibers having intra-fiber capillary channels can be used to direct fluids into absorbent sheets comprising the refined, curled cellulosic fibers.
