    • A roaming home location server is arranged to receive signaling data communicated between a home location server of a first home mobile radio network and a visitor location server of a second visited mobile network. The signaling data is associated with informing the home location server of the location of a mobile user equipment which has roamed from the first home mobile radio network to the second visited mobile network. The signaling data received by the roaming home location server from the visitor location server of the second visited mobile network includes a request to register the roaming mobile user equipment with the visitor location server of the first visited mobile network. The roaming home location server is arranged to register the roaming user equipment with the visitor location server of the first visited mobile network and to communicate the request signaling data to the home location server of the second home mobile radio network, and in response to rejection signaling data representing a rejection of the request to register the roaming mobile user equipment with the visitor location server of the first visited mobile network, to generate further request signaling data which has an effect of causing the home location server of the first home network to accept the registration of the roaming mobile user equipment with the visitor location register of the first visited mobile radio network.

    • A packet radio network provides a facility for communicating internet packets to and/or from a mobile user equipment. The packet radio network comprises a gateway support node, a serving support node and a radio network part. In response to a packet data protocol activation request message requesting a common packet data protocol context, the serving support node is operable in combination with the gateway support node to establish a common packet data protocol context in association with a packet communications bearer. The common packet data protocol context is established to communicate internet protocol packets via the packet communications bearer according to an internet protocol version specified by the mobile user equipment for one or more communications sessions. The common packet data protocol context therefore provides more flexibility, because a mobile user equipment can send both IPv4 internet packets and IPv6 internet packets as specified by the mobile user equipment. Furthermore a packet radio network according to example embodiments is provided with an arrangement for sharing the same GPRS/UMTS session, using a common packet communications bearer including the high-speed broadband radio bearers.

    • A speech applications server is arranged to provide a user driven service in accordance with an application program in response to user commands for selecting service options. The user is prompted by audio prompts to issue the user commands. The application program comprises a state machine operable to determine a state of the application program from one of a predetermined set of states defining a logical procedure through the user selected service options, transitions between states being determined in accordance with logical conditions to be satisfied in order to change between one state of the set and another state of the set. The logical conditions include whether a user has provided one of a set of possible commands. A prompt selection engine is operable to generate the audio prompts for prompting the commands from the user in accordance with predetermined rules. The prompt selected by the prompt selection engine is determined at run-time. Since the state machine and the prompt selection engine are separate entities and the prompts to be selected are determined at run-time, it is possible to effect a change to the prompt selection engine without influencing the operation of the state machine, enabling different customisations to be provided for the same user driven services.

The common packet communications bearer is shared with at least one other communications session and is formed by the gateway support node and the serving support node using a common tunnelling protocol bearer. Therefore a packet radio network is provided which can provide a common communications bearer which can be shared between different communications sessions. As a result high-speed broadband communications, such as HSDPA can be supported efficiently, because more than one communications session shares common communications resources.
