    • A method for determining heat (Q 1 ) or rate of heat release (q 1 ) of a slow reaction of a substance or substances (S 1 ). The method comprises arranging at least some of the substance (S 1 ) in a first thermally insulating container (110) and measuring a temporal temperature profile (T s1 (t)) of the substance or the substances (S 1 ) arranged in the first thermally insulating container (110) during a first primary period of time (411) and a first secondary period of time (421) as function of time (t). The method comprises determining a temporal temperature profile (T o (t)) of the environment (200) in which the first thermally insulating container (110) is arranged during the first primary period of time (411) and a temporal temperature profile (T o (t)) of the environment (205) in which the first thermally insulating container (110) is arranged during the first secondary period of time (421). Furthermore, the method comprises determining the heat (Q 1 ) or the rate of heat release (q 1 ) of the reaction of the substance or substances (S 1 ) arranged in the first thermally insulating container (110) using the temperature profiles and information indicative of a total heat capacity. Furthermore, a computer program that is, when executed on a computer, arranged to cause the computer to perform the method.
