    • A polyolefin composition contains (1) from 0.01 to 1.0 part by weight of tris(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-isocyanurate, (2) from 0.01 to 0.5 part by weight of a pentaerythritol diphosphite compound represented by the formula:
      where R, represents a methyl group, a tertiary butyl group or a tertiary amyl group, R 2 represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, a tertiary butyl group, a tertiary amyl group, a phenyl group or a cyclohexyl group, R 3 represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a tertiary butyl group and R 4 represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a tertiary butyl group, provided that not all of R 2 , R 3 and R 4 simultaneously represent hydrogen atoms, (3) from 0.01 to 1.0 part by weight of one compound selected from phenyl benzoate compounds, benzotriazole compounds and benzophenone compounds and (4) from 0.01 to 1.0 part by weight of a heterocyclic hindered amine compound which are blended with 100 parts by weight of a polyolefin. Extremely excellent light stability, particularly, at high temperature is obtained.

    • A component of a catalyst (for polymerizing olefins) is prepared by reacting a mixture of (1) a titanium trichloride hydrocarbon aluminum halide dialkyl ether composition, (2) a halogen, interhalogen compound or halgenated hydrocarbon and (3) a dialkyl ether, as in known from U.K. Patent No. 1,559,447; to increase activity of the catalyst and stereoregu- lanty of the polymer, the mixture also includes (4) an electron donor, namely an organic compound containing a N, O, Si, S and /or P atom, e.g. an amine, imine, nitrile, ether, ketone, ester, sulfide, silane, siloxane, phosphine, phosphite or phosphate, in an amount of 10 -6 to 0.02 mols per gram of titanium trichloride composition (1).
      The reaction may be in an inert hydrocarbon solvent at 0° to 150°C for 5 minutes to 6 hours, after which the solid is isolated and washed.
      The catalyst also includes a known hydrocarbon aluminum halide or hydride as activator and may include a further stereoregularity improving agent.
      Olefins having 2 to 10 carbon atoms are homo- or copolymerized at0°to 100°C to form stereoregular polyolefin using the catalyst in a small amount, e.g. 50 mg per 1.4 Kg of propylene.

    • A process for producing pre-expanded particles of a thermoplastic resin, wherein said particles are of a polyolefin obtained by polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst, and contain not more than 1% by weight of particles of diameter up to 105 µm and having a particle size distribution represented by: R(Dp) = 100exp[-(Dp/De) n ] where Dp is300 or more and represents a particle diameter (µ m); R(Dp) represents a cumulative weight percentage; De represents an absolute size constant that is a particle diameter (µm) corresponding to R(Dp) 36.8% by weight; and n is 25 or more and is a distribution constant.
      The process can be carried out by dispersing the particles in a liquid medium (e.g. water) containing a blowing agent (e.g. an aliphatic hydrocarbon) and a phenolic antioxidant, heating to above the softening point of the polymer, and releasing the dispersion into a zone of lower pressure.
      Pre-expanded polyolefin particles free from scatters of cell diameter or particle diameter and having a high expansion ratio are obtained, which can be put into a mold for expansion molding to easily provide a uniformly expanded article.
