The apparatus is comprised of an upstream conveyer conveying the pieces of food dough having a triangular shape, a downstream conveyer faster than the upstream conveyer, a separating apparatus separating a plurality of the pieces of food dough set in a line in the perpendicular direction to the moving direction of the conveyer from the following row of the pieces and translocating them from the upstream conveyer to the downstream conveyer, a laying-out and rotating apparatus laying-out and rotating a plurality of the pieces set in a line so that they are positioned at predetermined intervals in the perpendicular direction to the moving direction of the conveyer and are rotated 90 degrees in a predetermined rotational direction, and a detecting device detecting the pieces.

The leading edges of the pieces arranged in a plurality of columns that are conveyed downstream by a conveyor (3B) are aligned on lines (L1, L2) that are perpendicular to the direction that the pieces are conveyed, by using a plurality of aligning members (27) corresponding to the columns of the pieces. The aligning members (27) can reciprocate in the direction to convey the pieces and can move up from and down onto the conveyor (3B). While the aligning members (27) are moving downstream at a lower speed than that of the conveyor (3B), the respective aligning members (27) contact the respective leading edges of the pieces of the columns, which pieces (1) are conveyed by the conveyor, and then the aligning members (27) move up and are separated from the pieces (1).

The apparatus, which alternately rotates the pieces 9 clockwise and anticlockwise by 90 degrees, comprises pin-holding members 67 fixed to rotating rods 63, which rods 63 can move vertically and rotate clockwise and anticlockwise at 90 degrees. The pieces 9 can thus be aligned so that one of the apexes of the triangular-like-shaped pieces 9 is oriented toward the upstream side of the direction for carrying the pieces 9.
