摘要： Word processing systems wherein material to be printed is formatted on a plurality of display units having each a display (22), and a text formatting processor (14) which formats the display material, the display units sharing a single printer (10). This is accomplished by having at least one of the display units called the primary display unit (11) which comprises means for controlling the sharing of the printer (10) by the other display units, and each of the other display units which communicates with the printer under the control of these printer sharing control means and through a printer sharing adapter (28). If not, a determination is made as to whether the presented character can be constructed from characters existing on the print element (19). If so, construction is caused to occur to avoid a print element change. If, however, the presented character does not exist on the print element and cannot be constructed from characters that do exist on the print element, a requirement for a print element change is signalled (17). Following a change, printing will continue with the new print element as long as characters are available, or can be constructed from available characters.

摘要： A system for first justifying a text line according to a system escapement unit, and then rejustifying the line according to a minimum escapement unit (65) for a printer which is to be utilized in printing the line. For the first justification of the line, any residue is divided by the number of word spaces on the line to obtain a quotient and any remainder. The extent of word space expansion is then the value of the quotient plus the remainder until exhausted. Rejustification for the printer being utilized is accomplished by dividing (71) each system justified word space size (64) by the printer minimum escapement unit (65) to obtain a new quotient (79) and remainder (81). Each system justified word space is then converted to a value including the obtained quotient for each space, and the remainders for all spaces are accumulated (85) for adding to the first word space.

摘要： The present terminal, which is particularly suitable for word processing is provided with the capability of affecting mid-line pitch changes. It includes a printer (10) having means for receiving a selected one of a plurality of type or character font elements. The pitch of character font elements are different from each other. The printer includes means for selectively impacting selected characters form selected fonts along lines in a document. The terminal further includes control apparatus (13) forcontrolling and determining the selection of font elements to be used and in the case of printing with a particular font element, the characters to be printed in respective positions along the lines of the document to provide the desired document format. The control apparatus includes means for controlling the printing with at least two different font elements having different pitch along a single line.

摘要： A word processing system is provided with an interactive display terminal for displaying by character generation a data stream representative of alphanumeric characters to be printed on a document together with means for printing the characters on the document. The processing system integrates into the data stream, data representative of graphics and converts such integrated graphic data into graphic display characters whereby the graphics may also be displayed through character generation. When printing of the graphics and alphanumeric information to produce documents is required, the data in the data stream representative of alphanumeric characters is applied to the printing means resulting in the printing of the characters and the data in the data stream representative of the graphics is applied to apparatus for producing the graphics such as a plotter to produce the graphic content of the document.
