The milk quality can be determined at an analysing station (51) to which the milk is taken by the self-driven device.

    • An automatic milking arrangement and method in which milk collected in a milk receiver (15) at a milking location (M) where an animal has been milked is taken to an analysis station (51) by a freely-movable self-driven device (1) with a remote controlled guidance system to move and steer the device automatically. The milk receiver is connectable automatically to the analysis station for analysis of the collected milk, and if the milk is determined to be of acceptable quality for delivery to a bulk collection tank (61) it is delivered automatically into the milk tank. The milk may be held in the receiver until the analysis is complete, or it may be transferred into temporary milk holding tank (65) at the analysis station to await completion of the analysis. An initial check on the milk quality can be carried out by a quality checking means (34) before the receiver is taken to the analysis station so that milk of definitely unacceptable quality for delivery to the milk tank can be dumped without being subjected to a full analysis. The milk receiver can be integrated with the self-driven device or can be incorporated in a milking unit (71) demountable from the self-driven device.
