    • A process cartridge detachably mountable to an image forming apparatus main body is shown. The process cartridge comprises an image bearing member, a charging member for charging the image bearing member, a developing member for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on the image bearing member, a first unit having the image bearing member, a second unit swingably supported by said first unit and having said developing member, and a movable member which is movable between a first position and a second position by receiving a force from said second unit. The movable member permits said charging member to contact said image bearing member when said movable member is in said first position. The movable member reduces a contact pressure of said charging member against said image bearing member or separates said charging member from said image bearing member when said movable member is in said second position. The first unit and said second unit can relatively assume a contacting attitude and a separating attitude in accordance with their swinging angles. In case said contacting attitude is assumed, said developing member is held in contact with said image bearing member, and said movable member is in said first position. In case said separating attitude is assumed, said developing member is separated from said image bearing member, and said movable member is in said second position.

    • An electrophotographic photosensitive drum mounting method for mounting an electrophotographic photosensitive drum to a frame of a process cartridge detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, the method including the steps of (a) a first inserting step of inserting a first drum shaft provided at one end of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum into a first frame hole provided in a first projected portion at one end portion which is projected in a direction crossing with a longitudinal direction of a frame of the process cartridge at one longitudinal end of the frame of; (b) facing step of facing, while the first drum shaft is inserted into the first frame hole, the other end of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum to a second projected portion projected from the frame in a direction crossing with the longitudinal direction of the frame at the other longitudinal end of the frame, by moving the other end of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum; (c) a second inserting step of inserting a second drum shaft provided on a second cover at the other end into a second frame hole provided in a projected portion at the other end of the frame and then into a drum hole formed at the other end of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, from an outside of the second frame hole; (d) a bearing member engaging step of fitting a bearing hole of a bearing member around the first drum shaft, and engaging the bearing member with the first frame hole; (e) a first cover coupling process of fitting first hole formed in a first cover provided at one end around the first drum shaft, and then connecting the first cover to the frame; and (f) a second cover coupling process of connecting the second cover to the frame.

    • This invention relates to a cleaning container (14) having a highly durable drum in which removed toner is efficiently accumulated by toner conveyance having a backflow preventive function and upward conveyance, and optical fill-up detection (58) is provided for detecting the container is full of removed toner before malfunction is caused. The cleaning container (14) is divided in three chambers, a cleaning chamber (43), a removed toner accumulating chamber (44) and an intermediate conveying chamber by one partition plate (41). In the cleaning chamber (43) toner is conveyed with a screw (45), and in the intermediate conveying chamber, toner is conveyed upward by a cylindrical impeller having ribs, openings and protrusions on its outer periphery, a toner receptacle and a conveying guide. In removed toner small chambers partitioned with partition ribs, toner is stored from the upstream side with a screw partially having a reversed helical configuration, and in the small chamber at the most downstream side, the fill-up is optically detected. A cleaning member (56) for fill-up detecting windows (54,55) cleans in order of a top face window, then a side face window, and has ribs for preventing toner from flowing in at both sides of the windows.
