    • There is provided an energy limited node 102 for use in a communications network 100 comprising an access network node 104. The energy limited node 102 comprises a transceiver 106 operable to change its operational mode from a sleep mode in which the transceiver is not operable to communicate with the access network node to an active mode in which the transceiver is operable to communicate with the access network node; and a wake-up radio 112 comprising: a detector 302 operable to detect a received a wake-up signal from the access network node; and an identifier 304 operable to determine that the received wake-up signal corresponds to the transceiver of the energy limited node, wherein the transceiver is operable to change its operation mode from a sleep mode to an active mode upon determination that the received wake-up signal corresponds to the transceiver.

    • A method is provided of identifying a handover target femtocell base station from among multiple femtocell base stations. The method comprises: (a) measuring the characteristic of the handover target femtocell base station to provide a first measured value of the characteristic; (b) then identifying as handover candidate femtocell base stations a first set of femtocell base stations all having that first characteristic value; (c) then changing the characteristic of selected femtocell base stations in the first set; (d) then measuring the characteristic of the handover target femtocell base station to provide a further measured value of the characteristic; (e) then identifying as a reduced set of handover candidate femtocell base stations each femtocell base station in the first set having the further measured value of the characteristic; (f) then checking whether the number of femtocell base stations in the reduced set of handover candidate femtocell base stations is one, and upon determining that the number of femtocell base stations in the reduced set is greater than one, taking the reduced set as the first set in repeating steps (c), (d) (e) and (f).

    • A method and network node for controlling operation of first and second wireless communication networks both operating in a predetermined frequency band.
      The first communication network is operable to communicate within a plurality of first network channels within the predetermined frequency band. The second communication network is operable to communicate within at least one second network channel within the predetermined frequency band.
      Each of the second network channels co-exist in a frequency range occupied by a plurality of the first network channels.
      The method comprises the steps of:
      determining that there may be data to be communicated within a network channel of one of the first and second wireless communication networks,
      transmitting a channel restriction message to another of the first and second wireless communications networks, the channel restriction message instructing prevention of communication within the another of the first and second wireless communications networks on at least one network channel in the another of the first and second wireless communications networks coexisting in a frequency range occupied by the network channel; and
      instructing communication within the one of said first and second wireless communications networks on said channel.
