    • There is provided an energy limited node 102 for use in a communications network 100 comprising an access network node 104. The energy limited node 102 comprises a transceiver 106 operable to change its operational mode from a sleep mode in which the transceiver is not operable to communicate with the access network node to an active mode in which the transceiver is operable to communicate with the access network node; and a wake-up radio 112 comprising: a detector 302 operable to detect a received a wake-up signal from the access network node; and an identifier 304 operable to determine that the received wake-up signal corresponds to the transceiver of the energy limited node, wherein the transceiver is operable to change its operation mode from a sleep mode to an active mode upon determination that the received wake-up signal corresponds to the transceiver.

    • A device operable to control a phase shift and attenuation of a signal is disclosed. The device comprises: a directional device comprising an input port for receiving the signal, an output port for outputting an output signal and at least one further port, the directional device being operable to direct the signal received at the input port towards the at least one further port; a variable capacitor and variable resistor in data communication with the at least one further port; and at least one control signal input operable to receive at least one control signal and to route the at least one control signal to control a capacitance of the variable capacitor and to control a resistance of the variable resistor. The at least one further port is operable to reflect the signal, an attenuation and phase shift of the reflected signal depending on the capacitance of the variable capacitor and the resistance of the variable resistor, the directional device being operable to direct the reflected signal towards the output port.
