    • There is described a process for preparing a compound of Formula (IV):

      which comprises

      a) ring closure of.a compound of Formula (III):
      in which R, R 1 are as defined above for Formula (IV), Z is acyl or SO 3 - M + , and Y is hydroxy, bromo or chloro, to provide a compound of Formula (IV) in which Z is acyl or SO 3 M+; or,
      b) acylating or treating with pyridine-SO 3 , a compound of Formula (IV) in which Z is hydrogen to produce a compound of Formula (IV) in which Z is other than hydrogen; or
      c) exposing a compound of Formula (IV), in which Z is acyl other than pivaloyl to solvolytic conditions to produce a compound of Formula (IV) in which Z is hydrogen;
      d) and, if desired, removing any protecting groups present and forming an addition salt thereof; and certain compounds per se resulting therefrom.

    • Molecular constructs and dual recognition constructs having a sequence encoding a TCR affinity weakening motif, and DNA and RNA sequences corresponding thereto, are presented. Modified T-cells and other cells transformed with the molecular contracts express a modified TCR that imparts a reduction, in non-specific binding, an enhancement of binding specificity and an enhancement of binding affinity for a target antigen, compared to non-transformed (wild-type, native) T-cells, are described. The modified TCRs possess an affinity enhancing motif and an affinity weakening motif. Methods of transforming cells and methods of using enriched populations of transformed cells, in the treatment of cancer and infections arid T-cell mediated pathologies are provided. The affinity weakening motif imparts a weakened interaction, of a TCR with major histocompatibility complex proteins, such as HLA proteins in humans. Soluble modified TCRs are also provided, Therapeutic preparations comprising modified T-cells, modified TCRs, and modified TCR-therapeutic agent-conjugates, are also provided.

    • Example methods and apparatus for obtaining suspended particle information are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes emitting light from a light source, dividing the light source into a first path and a second path, and directing the first path to a first container comprising a plurality of particles in a suspension material. The example method also includes directing the second path to a second container containing a suspension material devoid of particles, retrieving a first transmission value of the first path through the first container, and retrieving a second transmission value of the second path through the second container. The example method further includes directing the first and second paths to the second and first containers, respectively, retrieving a third transmission value of the first path a through the second container, retrieving a fourth transmission value of the second path through the first container, and calculating a ratio of the first and second transmission values to the third and fourth transmission values to determine an indication of transmissivity for a given wavelength.
