摘要： The location of unmodified wireless assets in a wireless communication network may be identified using time differences of arrivals of a communication sequence at different network receivers. Time-stamping devices may include correlator circuits in parallel with signal decoders to time-stamp communication sequences. Cellular wireless networks may be frequency-multiplexed to increase spatial time-stamping density. Tags may be attached to passive assets to provide location identification information to network devices. Locations of assets broadcasting standard 802.11 radio frequency structures may be identified. Noise inherent in correlating a communication sequence may be reduced by using a selected correlation function.

摘要： A method and location determination module is provided for determining a location of one of a plurality of units using neighbor lists. Each unit is communicatively coupled to at least some of the other plurality of units, where at least some of the plurality of units are reference units, whose locations are known. The units communicate with other nearby units within communication range, to establish neighbor lists. A unit to be located then identifies an aggregate value corresponding to the number of occurrences of the reference units in the neighbor list of the unit to be located and the neighbor lists of each of a group of associated units. The location of the unit to be located is then determined, based upon the known locations of the reference units and the number of identified occurrences of the reference units in the corresponding neighbor lists.

摘要： A method and apparatus that allows correlations between a selected parameter and the error in a pseudo range measurement to be exploited. A database is established in which the amount of error estimated for particular pseudo range measurements to a beacon is maintained. Clusters are defined. Each cluster is associated with a range of values for the selected parameter. Pseudo range measurements are then associated with a particular cluster based upon the value of the selected parameter at the time (or proximate to the time) the pseudo range masurement was taken. As more estimates of the pseudo range measurements are made, the size of the clusters (i.e., the range of values of the selected parameter) can be reduced. Due to the correlation between the selected parameter and the errors in the pseudo range measurements, reducing the size of the clusters reduces the variance of the error estimates. The mean value of the error estimates is used to correct the error in future pseudo range measurements.

摘要： A system for determining the position and orientation of a tracked object by measuring electromagnetic energy. The system includes a shield (164) of magnetic permeable material (30) positioned on one side of the object to be tracked. A transmitter emits the electromagnetic energy and there is a tracker sensor (122). One of the transmitter (180) or tracker sensor is attached to the object to be tracked. A correction sensor is at fixed location relative to the transmitter assembly. Both sensors assemblies measure the electromagnetic energy emitted by the transmitter. Based on the energy measured by the correction sensor, the location of a virtual dipole (B) that mirrors the transmitter (A), the real dipole, on the opposite side of the shield is determined. Based on the positions of the real and virtual dipoles and the energy measured by the tracker sensor, the position and orientation of the tracker sensor (P) relative to the transmitter is determined.

摘要： A multiple pass location processing method, for use in a wireless location system (WLS), comprises identifying a received transmission as requiring multiple pass location processing whereby the WLS produces a first, lower quality location estimate and then subsequently produces a second, higher quality location estimate. The WLS then produces the first location estimate and provides it to a first location application, and then produces the second location estimate. The second location estimate may be a more accurate estimate than the first location estimate and/or of a higher confidence than the first location estimate. This method is suitable, but not limited, for use in connection with locating a wireless transmitter involved in an emergency services call and routing the call to a call center.
