The drive pin engages a slot (116) in a shift fork (106) which extends normal to the axis of movement of the shift fork and associated speed change or gear shift mechanism. Uni-directional or bi-directional rotation of the drive motor (130) rotates the gear (122) and sequentially moves the eccentric pin (118), shift fork and shift mechanism between first and second terminal positions and, typically, a center or intermediate, neutral position.

摘要： A transfer case includes an input shaft (50), an output shaft (40), and a gear set (48) selectively operable to translate torque between the input and output shafts at reduced speeds. A clutch (84) is operable to translate torque between the input and output shafts either directly or through the gear set. An actuator (100), having a rotational output, is operatively coupled to the clutch for moving the clutch between predetermined positions. A control unit is employed in connection with the transfer case to effect the method of synchronizing low to high shifts in the transfer case. To this end, the control unit calculates the speed of the actuator as it moves the clutch to a neutral position. The control unit further determines the additional time until the clutch will reach a predetermined synchronization point using the speed of the actuator and the remaining rotational distance through which the actuator must move for the clutch to reach the predetermined synchronization point. The control unit is further operable to stop the actuator when the clutch has reached the synchronization point for no longer than a predetermined time. The control unit then senses and compares the rotational speeds of the input and output shafts and signals the actuator to complete the shift from low to high by moving the clutch to provide direct torque translation between the input and output shafts when the difference in the rotational speeds of the input and output shafts is less than a predetermined value.

摘要： A shift assembly for a two-speed transfer case utilizes a single actuator to drive both the gear or speed range selection mechanism and a modulating friction clutch pack which selectively transfers drive torque from a primary transfer case output to a secondary transfer case output. The shift assembly includes an actuator which rotates a shift rail and cam having an intermediate helical track and a dwell region at each end. A lost motion assembly operating in conjunction with the helical cam selectively engages and disengages the friction clutch pack when the cam follower is in one of the two dwell regions. Thus, the shift assembly provides sequential operation from full clutch engagement in a first speed range through clutch disengagement in the first speed range, de-selection of the first speed range and selection of neutral, de-selection of neutral and selection of the second speed range and thence increasing engagement, up to full engagement, of the friction clutch pack in the second speed range.
