    • A fluidized bed combustion apparatus includes a combustion chamber (30) having a distributor plate assembly (33) including an inverted frustopyramidal surface (42) with slots (49) and offset shields (51) thereover to form laterally oriented air flow openings into the combustion chamber from a first plenum (36) for debris particle classification along said surface. At the bottom of each frustopyramidal surface is an outlet for classified debris. Air flow riser tubes (50, 52) project up from a second plenum (38) to a position above said surface. Forced air is supplied to the slots and the risers, with means (62) to regulate relative flow to them. Projecting down from the debris outlets are drop tubes (46) having cooling fins (47), such tubes connecting to inlets of an auger conveyor (102). The auger conveyor has a coolant-cooled housing (104) and a coolant-cooled auger.

    • A conveyor/cooler (10) of hot loose solid materials produced by fluid bed boilers (12) and various industrial processes fundament ally comprising one or more feeding channels, substantially vertical or at any inclination wherein, because of gravity, said material (18) leaves the combustion chamber of the boiler, and a sealed metallic container means (16) connected to the downstream end of said discharging channel(s) (20) is disclosed. Within said container a metallic conveyor belt means (14) driven by proper motor means is placed on such a conveyor belt means, the material from the downstream end of the channel(s) is laid, thus forming a travelling continuous bed, said belt means thus constituting a regenerative heat exchanger which absorbs heat from material during the forward run and gives it back to air during the backward run.
