    • A pneumatic control system is provided for positioning a piston within a cylinder and comprises a positioner for regulating the flow of compressed air into and out of first and second ends of the cylinder. First and second large boosters force compressed air into the respective first and second ends. First and second small boosters and first and second quick exhaust valves collectively exhaust compressed air out of the respective first and second ends. First and second small and large booster check valves interposed between the directional valve and the respective first and second small and large boosters are oriented such that the flow of compressed air through the signal lines and into the first and second small and large boosters may be blocked for increasing the sensitivity of the positioning of the piston.

    • The system controls the position of a pneumatically operated valve using an electrical control signal from a controller. A pilot circuit of the system has multiple piezo valves that are subject to electrical signals from the controller to provide pneumatic output signals to a volume booster circuit of the system. Relatively small volume pneumatic pilot signals from the piezo valves are used to determine the opened or closed state of higher volume valve assemblies of the booster circuit which connect or disconnect the actuator of the valve to be operated with a source of pressurized gas. Both the piezo valves and the booster valve assemblies are subjected to gas at the same operating pressure, but the surface area of pistons in the booster valve assemblies exposed to the piezo valves is substantially larger than the surface area of the pistons exposed to operating pressure such that the pneumatic signals shift the pistons even when pressure is the same on both sides thereof. Both single-acting and double-acting embodiments are disclosed, as well as alternative versions of booster valve assemblies.

The shaft end cover houses the lock check system and includes a number of flow paths that provide for extension and retraction of a piston rod connector housed in the cylinder body in response to fluid pressure supplied from the fluid shaft housing. The shaft end cover and lock check system are configured to allow small diameter cylinder bodies to be coupled thereto while providing the safety and functional features associated with the lock check system.

    • A hydraulic cylinder in which the cylinder head contains the main control valve for the cylinder. In one fluid path from the main control valve to an area located on one side of the cylinder's piston, fluid is directed through a transfer tube that extends through the center of the piston and terminates within a hollow ported section of the piston rod. The cylinder head can additionally include two electrically-actuated pilot valves and two pilot-operated check valves. The pilot-operated check valves are located in different passages that extend to areas located on opposite sides of the piston. The pilot-operated check valves include structure that, in combination with passages in the cylinder head, cause both pilot-operated check valves to open when pressurized fluid is being directed to one of the pilot-operated check valves by the main control valve. In the preferred embodiment, electrical wiring to the cylinder head travels through one of the fluid hoses connected to the cylinder.
