    • PURPOSE: To obtain an aqueous suspension containing an organic peroxide, useful as a polymerization initiator of polystyrene, etc., and transport able with a pump without causing clogging, by using tribasic calcium phosphate as an active component.
      CONSTITUTION: An aqueous suspension containing an organic peroxide is prepared by compounding tribasic calcium phosphate. The liquid can be prepared e.g. by adding a necessary amount of tribasic calcium phosphate to a definite amount of water, dispersing under stirring, optionally adding and dispersing a dispersion stabilizing assistant in the dispersion, adding a required amount of powder (benzoyl peroxide) moistened with water, and stirring the mixture. Even if a partial phase-separation takes place in the above suspension, the suspension can be homogenized easily by the light shaking or stirring, to enable the approach to the practical adoption of the automatic charging system with a pump. In the conventional process, the charge of the peroxide has to be carried out through a manhole and accordingly the operation of a polymerization plant in closed system has been impossible. The present process clears the way for the operation of the plant in closed system.

    • In the present invention, hydrated magnesium salts of the carboxylate group in certain aromatic or olefinically unsaturated peroxyacids such as monoperoxyphthalic acid or monoperoxymaleic acid are made by reacting the corresponding anhydride with aqueous hydrogen peroxide and a magnesium base, in the absence of a significant amount of free iron. By so doing, the process avoids the use of non-aqueous solvents such as ethyl acetate. Solid product can be obtained by using no more than enough hydrogen peroxide and water for solely a damp product to be obtained or by crystallization from an aqueous solution, preferably with recycle of the mother liquor. Preferably the reaction temperature is maintained at 5.degree. to 25.degree. C., employing 1.8 to 2.2 moles anhyhdride per mole of magnesium base, and 0.95 to 1.2 moles of hydrogen peroxide per mole of anhydride.The product can be used as a bleach and as a disinfectant.

    • The invention provides an improvement for the continuous preparation of lauroyl peroxide in the absence of organic solvents from crude lauroyl chloride, aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and hydrogen peroxide by continuously adding the reaction components to a reaction stirrer vessel and carrying out the reaction with an average residence time of 15 to 30 minutes, the improvement comprising maintaining the temperature in the raction vessel between 0.degree. and 20.degree. C. by cooling, adding 1.0 to 3% by weight of hydrogen peroxide, referred to the total amount of the reaction mixture, and sodium hydroxide in such amount that the concentration thereof in the reaction mixture run off is 0.15 to 0.30N, withdrawing the reaction mixture from the reaction vessel and heating the reaction mixture by the addition of water of a temperature of from 70.degree. to 90.degree. C., to above the melting point of lauroyl peroxide, and separating off the molten lauroyl peroxide in a separator.
