    • A down hole pipe cutter (10) is provided to cut a section of pipe from the pipe’s interior. The device includes a lower guide plate (12), an upper guide plate (14), a connector rod (16) interconnecting the lower guide plate to the upper guide plate, and an eccentrically mounted blade drive assembly. The eccentrically mounted blade drive assembly (18) includes an outer tube (20) and an inner drive shaft (22) that are moveably interconnected to both the lower guide plate (12) and the upper guide plate (14). The inner drive shaft has a distal end extending through the lower guide plate (12) with a blade (24) attached thereto. The proximal end of the drive shaft extends above the upper guide plate (14) for attachment to a power source, such as a hand drill. The blade drive assembly (18) is rotatable between a first retracted position and a second extended cutting position.

    • The invention pertains to a special process and devices for the production preferably by machining of workpieces with non-circular outer and inner contours such as squares, hexagons, ellipses, polygons and the like, or eccentric circular bores and/or tappets. In the claimed process, the workpiece is rotated at constant angular velocity while a tool (e.g. the blade of a lathe tool) set eccentrically in relation to the workpiece is moved without rotating about its own axis at controllable speed in a circular path, workpiece and tool being moved towards one another in cycles with the appropriate advance. This ensures that apart from a small cuttings volume for each advance, very narrow tolerances can be set. The associated device, which has a special gear and optionally an integrated cross slide unit, gimbal-mounted yaw head or eccentric spindle, can be used as a compact tool unit for rotary and milling machines and the like.
