    • A lamp assembly has a reflector body formed of an injection moulded, low profile, thermoset polyester moulding composition with an integral sleeve having a stop internally of the body. A tubular bulbholder has an external flange engaging against the stop and carries a bulb. The reflector body has upper and lower paraboloidal portions of different focal length joined together by a step facing the lower paraboloidal portion. The step decreases in width inwardly from the periphery of the reflector body. The lower paraboloidal portion has a greater focal length than the upper paraboloidal portion which projects forwardly away from the rear of the reflector body to a greater extent than the lower paraboloidal portion. A mounting flange around the reflector body has a planar surface against which a lens element engages. The mounting flange is disposed between shield and the rear of the reflector body.

    • In a projector-type head lamp, a reflector having a concave inner reflecting surface, a light source, a shade with a cut-off edge and a projection lens are arranged in order. The inner reflecting surface of the reflector has at least 2 foci and is so designed as to reflect the rays of light emitted from the light source in a direction crossing the optical axis. The light source is disposed near one of the foci of the reflector while the cut-off edge of the shade is arranged in the vicinity of the other focus. The projection lens has an optical axis nearly coincident with that of the reflector and is so formed that the power of refraction thereof becomes progressively greater from the optical axis toward the outer circumference, namely, its peripheral lens area has a focus located in the vicinity of the cut-off edge while its central lens area has a focus located between the cut-off edge and the light source. The colored rays having passed through the peripheral lens area near the outer circumference of the projection lens form a sharp image of the cut-off edge of the shade on a screen, while the white rays having passed through the central lens area in which the optical axis lies form a blurry image of the cut-off edge on the screen. In an illumination pattern defined on the screen, the color fringes formed in the vicinity of the cut-off line are covered by the blurry image defined by the white rays having passed through the central lens area, thereby making the color fringes sufficiently unnoticeable.

    • The invention concerns a head-light system for motor cars, comprising at least one or more, especially two housings (1) for head-lights and at least one light-emitting body in each housing (1), wherein the light emitting body is situated in a translucent outer vessel (4) made advantageously of glass if the housing (1) cannot be sealed hermetically and in an outer vessel (4) or without it if the housing (1) can be sealed hermetically, wherein at least one light-emitting body, and advantageously one in each housing (1) is made in form of a high-pressure gas discharge vessel (3) having a wall made of ceramics material. The main advantage of the proposed headlight system is that the visibility conditions during driving in darkness can be improved in comparison with the known solutions.

    • A motor vehicle headlight including a parabolic reflector, a cover secured to the reflector and a lighting capsule located within the reflector. The capsule includes an envelope having a coiled filament located therein and including a substantially cylindrical configuration. Optimum light output is attained by providing the reflector with a short focal length (0.2 inch to about 0.5 inch) and by utilization of a coiled filament structure having a length to diameter ratio of less than about 2:1. The result is a headlight having an overall vertical height of only about two inches and a corresponding frontal area of extremely small size (between 3.0 and 7.5 square inches).
