    • An aerial delivery box (30) for release from an aircraft comprises a hold (31) for a payload; and an impact absorbing zone (32) for protecting the payload of the hold. The hold and the impact absorbing zone are formed of biodegradable materials. The impact absorbing zone (32) comprises at least one layer having a honeycomb structure, the honeycomb structure defining a cellular network extending in the plane of the layer. Also disclosed is an aerial delivery assembly comprising: the aerial delivery box (30); a parachute (20); and a plurality of shroud lines (21) connecting the parachute (20) to the aerial delivery box (30). Also disclosed is a method of delivering goods by aerial delivery, comprising releasing the aerial delivery assembly from an aircraft. The aerial delivery assembly may be released from a cargo pod of an aircraft, in particular a cargo pod comprising: a first casing attached to the aircraft; and a second casing attached to the first casing rearwardly of the first casing. The first and second casings define an opening to receive the assembly. The second casing is adapted to be releasable from the first casing so as to expose the parachute and thereby allow the parachute to inflate and extract the aerial delivery box from the first casing.

    • A parachute rescue device (3) has parachutes (13) whose lines are formed by parachute rods (37) or arrangements of rods and cords (92). These spring-elastic rods (37) serve for deploying the parachutes (13) at standstill already. The canopy (25) may also be deployed by such rods (29). The rescue device (3) may furthermore comprise two such parachutes that are attached to a carrier system (7, 11) and inclined away from each other. The parachutes (13) are attached to the carrier system (1, 11) rotatably about their longitudinal axes and their canopies (25) are e.g. composed of segments (53) one edge (56) of each of which is only loosely connected to the rod structure (29). The air escaping through the thus created openings (57) may apply an autorotating motion to the parachutes (13) while tilting the parachutes allows steering the fall.

    • A parafoil for operation at high altitudes, in low density air, or at low airspeeds, and methods for opening same. Some versions of the parafoil comprise flexible members connected to the parafoil canopy. When the parafoil canopy is in a stowed configuration, the members are deformed, storing elastic energy. When the canopy is released from its stowed configuration, the members spring back to their undeformed shapes, thereby opening or assisting with opening the canopy. The flexible member may also be attached to a base structure, which is attached to the payload. The members may comprise rods or hollow tubes that can be flexed using a fulcrum near the base structure, or a spacer plate, so that the ends connected to the canopy are restrained by a parachute bag containing the stowed or packed canopy. The parachute bag can be opened prior to or during detachment of the parafoil from the flight vehicle

    • A reefing slider for providing improved line management and canopy deployment characteristics of a ram air inflated airfoil type canopy. During initial descent of the parachute the slider, secured by retaining elements, is held against the canopy in the upper reefing position where it mechanically restricts canopy deployment while giving the canopy time to achieve proper orientation following the drop from the launching aircraft. Upon sufficient air flow into the canopy cells, the retaining elements separate, releasing the slider and enabling full opening of the canopy.
