    • An electrochemical etching method for producing semiconductor diaphragms from a semiconductor wafer comprised of a first semiconductor layer of a first conductivity type and a second semiconductor layer formed on the first semiconductor layer, the second semiconductor layer having a second conductivity type different than the first semiconductor layer. The semiconductor wafer is placed in an etching solution with respect to a counter-electrode immersed in the etching solution. The semiconductor wafer has a plurality of chips each of which includes at least one third semiconductor layer of the first conductivity type. The third semiconductor layer extends through the second semiconductor layer to the first semiconductor layer. A first positive potential is applied to the first and third semiconductor layers with respect to the counter-electrode. A second positive potential is applied to the second semiconductor layer with respect to the first semiconductor layer.

    • An information processing system includes: an information processing apparatus; and an image input apparatus. The information processing apparatus performs: storing a correspondence relationship between a document and a user in charge of the image input of the document; transmitting a request for the image input to the user; picking out information on the document from the correspondence relationship on the basis of information on the user; and transmitting the information on the document to the image input apparatus. The image input apparatus performs: authenticating the user; transmitting a name specifying the authenticated user to the information processing system; receiving information on a document associated with the user from the information processing system; requesting the image input based on the received information on the document; inputting an image; registering the input image; and transmitting to the information processing system information on the registered image and the document.

    • A repeater and method provides a technique to minimize congestion and packet loss, which may be generated when a fault is detected in a ring type packet network or when the network recovers from such a fault. A repeater having a plurality of ports for transmitting and receiving packets in a ring type network for transmitting the received packets on the basis of an address included in a received packet and a transmitting port database indicating an identifier of a port to transmit the packet having the address as the destination, comprises a control packet processing block to detect reception of a fault notifying packet transmitted from a repeater having detected a fault and a control block to update, upon reception of the fault notifying packet from an immediately adjacent repeater, a port identifier of the transmitting port database having a port identifier of the port having received said fault notifying packet into a port identifier of a port connected to another immediately adjacent repeater.
