    • An apparatus for reducing webbing wind-up force has a ratchet which rotates together with a take-up shaft for winding up a webbing, a rocker arm with a pawl engageable with the ratchet, a bidirectional solenoid for causing the rocker arm to pivot, and a snap action spring. When an occupant has the webbing fastened, the bidirectional solenoid is activated for a predetermined period of time so that the pawl is engaged with the ratchet, and thereafter, the rocker arm is held in its engagement position by the action of the snap action spring. When the occupant unfastens the webbing, the bidirectional solenoid is activated for a predetermined period of time in the direction opposite to that in the above operation so that the pawl is disengaged from the ratchet, and thereafter, the rocker arm is held in its disengagement position by the action for the snap action spring. Thus, it is possible to reduce the amount of electric power consumed by the bidirectional solenoid.

    • In a webbing tension device adapted for use in a webbing retractor for a vehicle in which a takeup shaft retracting an occupant restraining webbing thereon is biased in a direction of a webbing retraction by small resilient means and in an emergency situation of the vehicle a biasing force of large resilient means is transmitted to the takeup shaft through one clutch means so that the takeup shaft is biased in the direction of the webbing retraction by the large resilient means, another clutch means is disposed between the takeup shaft and the large resilient means. Accordingly, when the webbing is fully retracted on the takeup shaft after the vehicle is released from the emergency situation, the another clutch means is put in its connected situation, and when the webbing is unwound from the takeup shaft after it is retracted fully on the takeup shaft, an unwinding rotation of the takeup shaft is transmitted to the large resilient means, so that the large resilient means is wound up.

    • In a webbing tension device adapted for use in a seatbelt system for protecting an occupant in an emergency situation of a vehicle, comprising a wheel supported by a webbing takeup shaft, a pawl latched to the wheel to prevent the wheel from rotating and trigger means detecting an acceleration and deceleration acting upon the vehicle in the emergency situation thereof to release the pawl from the wheel, cam means is caused to abut on the pawl and the trigger means. Accordingly, the wheel is surely prevented from the rotation in an ordinary running situation of the vehicle, and in the emergency situation of the vehicle the trigger means moves the cam means to release the pawl reliably from the wheel. In the present webbing tension device, thus, latching and releasing performances between the pawl and the wheel are improved.
