    • An optical disc having a protection layer for protecting a recording layer located farther from a substrate and having a first recording layer and a second recording layer stacked on one side of the substrate, wherein the reflectance of one of the first and second recording layers is made higher than the reflectance of the other recording layer, and a reproducing device which uses this optical disc. The reproducing device casts a light beam emitted from a single light source onto the first recording layer or the second recording layer via a single objective lens, discriminates which of the first recording layer and the second recording layer the light beam emitted from the light source is cast on, on the basis of the result of detection of a reflected beam from the first recording layer or the second recording layer, moves the objective lens in a direction parallel to the optical axis of the objective lens on the basis of the result of discrimination, and condenses the light beam on the first recording layer or the second recording layer so as to carry out reproduction of information.

    • A method for reproducing a recording medium comprising reading out identification data from a recording medium having recorded thereon data and the identification data, which identification data includes entity identification data and detection data. The detection data is generated using at least the entity identification data and indicates whether or not the entity identification data at least is authentic data. The identification recorded on the recording medium is read out, detection data is generated based on the entity identification data of the identification data as read out and the detection data extracted from the read-out identification data is compared to the generated detection data. When, as a result of comparison, the detection data extracted from the read-out identification data is coincident with the generated detection data, the outputting of the data read out from the recording medium is permitted.

    • In a recording and/or reproducing apparatus having a rotated record carrier, for example, in the form of a disc, adapted to have video or other signals optically recorded in successive turns of a spiral track on a surface of the record disc, a recording and/or reproducing transducer or head assembly with an optical system including a movable lens for focusing a light beam at the disc surface and/or a movable mirror for deflecting the light beam so as to cause the latter to scan the track, and a servo system for detecting deviations from the proper focused and/or scanned conditions, for example, due to fluctuations of the rotated record disc in directions normal to, or in the plane of rotation thereof, and for correspondingly displacing the lens and/or mirror, respectively, so as to maintain the proper focused and scanned conditions; such servo system is provided with a gain-frequency characteristic having peaks at a fundamental frequency corresponding to the rotational speed of the record disc and at least at one harmonic of such fundamental frequency so as to improve the accuracy with which the servo system responds to fluctuations of the record disc for maintaining the proper focused and/or scanned condition.
