    • A medical device for placing an embolic device at a predetermined site within a vessel of the body including a delivery catheter and a flexible pusher member having a lumen therethrough and being slidably disposed within the lumen of the catheter. A stretch resistant embolic device is retained within the delivery catheter by a mechanical interlocking mechanism which includes an engagement member which is attached to the distal end of the pusher member and extends through a retaining ring at the proximal end of the embolic device. A detachment member extends through an aperture at the distal end of the engagement member thereby locking the embolic device onto the pusher member. The engagement member engages a retaining ring on the embolic device. When the embolic device is advanced to the predetermined site within the vessel, the detachment member is withdrawn from the aperture to thereby release the embolic device at the treatment site.

    • A vascular occlusion device deployment system for deploying an occlusion device at a preselected site within the vasculature of a patient. The deployment system includes a pusher which has a constrictor located at the distal end portion of the pusher. The constrictor has a channel which receives a portion of the occlusion device. The constrictor has a proximal end portion and a distal end portion wherein the proximal end portion can be moved relative to the distal end portion to reduce the size of the channel. When the channel size is reduced, the constrictor grasps the portion of the occlusion device located within the channel. When it is desired to deploy the coil, the constrictor is moved in the opposite direction to increase the size of the channel and release the coil's grasp of the occlusion device.

    • Provided herein are a system, method, and apparatus for delivering a therapeutic device, e.g. an embolic coil, from a delivery tube at a target site in a patient's body. A heating element is disposed in the delivery tube that can be actuated remotely, and a layer of low temperature adhesive is applied at the heating element to retain the therapeutic device. The kicker in the form of, for example, a compressed spring is mounted within the delivery tube so as to be in contact with the therapeutic device for applying a constant ejector force that is countered by the adhesive force of the low temperature adhesive. When the heating element is actuated, the spring's ejector force overcomes the softened adhesive's adhesive force to force the therapeutic device out of the delivery tube.

    • A delivery system for an embolic coil including a delivery tube having a lumen. A proximal coil junction is disposed between the delivery tube and the embolic coil. Insertable through the lumen and extending proximally beyond the proximal end of the delivery tube is a detachable wire with a terminating feature disposed on its distal end. At least one stretch resistant member is disposed within a lumen formed by the embolic coil. A distal end of each of the at least one stretch resistant members is secured to a distal end of the embolic coil, while each of the at least one stretch resistant members is also secured proximate the proximal end of the embolic coil. The distal end of the delivery tube is retained by the wire physically against without being attached in any way to the proximal junction.

    • An embolic coil detachment system includes an elongated, flexible polymer tube having a tubular wall with an inner surface defining an interior lumen. A distal portion of the tubular wall has a score line, and a resistive heating element is located near the score line and in immediate contact with a surface of a distal portion of the tubular wall, to provide direct heating of the distal portion of the flexible polymer tube adjacent to the score line. A therapeutic embolic coil includes a headpiece that is releasably attached within the distal portion of the flexible polymer tube, and that is releasable by heating of the distal portion of the tubular shaft to cause the distal portion of the tubular wall to split along the score line.
