    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the axial length as the whole of a gear shift mechanism, so as to shorten the total length of an automatic transmission, by concentrically arranging a plurality of planetary gear mechanisms, and setting the speed change stages. SOLUTION: A first planetary gear mechanism is constituted by taking a sun gear 1S, a ring gear 1R concentrically arranged to the sun gear 1S, and a carrier 1C for holding a pinion gear 1P to be meshed with the gears 1S, 1R as main elements. A sun gear 2S of a second planetary gear mechanism is formed on the outer peripheral side of the ring gear 1R of the first planetary gear mechanism, and both sides are integrated with each other. The second planetary gear mechanisms is constituted by taking a carrier 2C for holding a pinion gear 2P to be meshed with the sun gears 2S, 2R as a main element. Respective carriers 1C, 2C are connected to each other and integrally rotated. Accordingly, a plurality of gear ratios are set, and the total length of an automatic transmission can be restrained.
