    • A flange member 20, which is formed as a separate body from a motor shaft 6, is screwed to an end 6a of the motor shaft 6. The flange member 20 functions as a flange 19 of the motor shaft 6. A flange 18, which is formed at an end 13a of a ball screw nut 13, is fastened to the flange 19 of the motor shaft 6. This couples the ball screw nut 13 to the motor shaft 6. A coupling member 27 is arranged in the joint portion between the ball screw nut 13 and the motor shaft 6. The coupling member 27 is formed by a tubular portion 28 and a plate flange 29, which extends radially outward from the outer circumferential surface of an end of the tubular portion 28. The tubular portion 28 of the coupling member 27 is fixed to the motor shaft 6, and the plate flange 29 is fixed to the flange member 20.

    • In a multiple spindle processing unit which can change processing locations of a work in accordance with a modification made to the work, the present invention is intended to facilitate changes of design corresponding to the modification made to the work and reduce the number of parts to be replaced. In a frame member which is guided and supported so as to be moved towards and away from a work, insertion holes are formed at a plurality of locations corresponding to processing locations of the work. In each of a plurality of tool main spindle assemblies, a main spindle having a front end portion where a chuck for mounting a tool is provided is coaxially journaled in a housing in the shape of a circular cylinder or a polygonal cylinder and is rotationally driven by a built-in motor. Each of the tool main spindle assemblies is mounted to the frame member with the housing inserted through the insertion hole. The tool main spindle assembly may be mounted to the frame member through a holding plate which is divided into a plurality of portions for securely sandwiching the housing or through a flange which is integrated with the housing and which protrudes radially.

    • In a ball screw mechanism, a retainer is provided between an outer circumference of a ball screw shaft and an inner circumference of a ball nut and has a plurality of retainer grooves arranged in the circumferential direction for retaining a plurality of rolling balls. Each retainer groove of the retainer takes a form that allows the rolling balls therein to move radially outward but restrains the rolling balls therein from moving radially inward. Therefore, in the ball screw mechanism and an electric power steering device incorporating the same, the movement of the retainer in radial directions can be restricted by the plurality of rolling balls which are rolled along ball rolling grooves spirally formed respectively on the outer circumference of the ball screw shaft and the inner circumference of the ball nut.
