    • A vacuum pump includes a rotatable cylinder rotatably disposed coaxially around an inner stationary cylinder and in an outer stationary cylinder. The rotatable cylinder has a plurality of recesses defined in inner and outer circumferential surfaces thereof. The outer stationary cylinder has a helical groove defined in an inner circumferential surface thereof. The inner stationary cylinder has a helical groove defined in an outer circumferential thereof. The rotatable cylinder is rotated by a motor to deliver a gas axially along the helical grooves. The recesses are effective to produce turbulent flows in the gas to increase the rate at which the gas is discharged. The recesses have an axial length smaller than the transverse width of helical threads on the outer circumferential surface of the inner stationary cylinder and the inner circumferential surface of the outer stationary cylinder, to minimize any gas leakage across the helical threads.

    • An air-conditioning register includes a cylinder-shaped retainer, a plurality of horizontal fins, a connecting rod, an actuating member, and a moving member. The cylinder-shaped retainer has opposite upper and lower walls and opposite side walls, which form an outlet opening and an air passage. The horizontal fins have a swing shaft, respectively, and are disposed pivotally about the swing shaft within the retainer. The connecting rod connects the horizontal fins. The actuating member actuates the connecting rod to swing the horizontal fins synchronously with each other. The moving member enables the swing shaft of at least one of the horizontal fins to move back and forth with respect to the retainer depending on a swing angle of the horizontal fins with respect to a horizontal plane.

    • A cup holder includes a base, a cylindrical member, an urging device, a locking device, an unlocking device, a lid member, a reversing device, a non-service position, and a service position.     • A driving apparatus for driving a functional body mounted on a vehicle comprises a power supply, an electric motor, and a driving means.
