In one aspect of the invention, there is provided in a terminal device a bar code reader for reading a bar code recorded on a medium, a bar code reader withdrawal detecting switch, and an alarm that acts when no input is received from the bar code medium over a predetermined lapse of time after detection of a bar code reader withdrawal.
