    • A super magnetostrictive actuator includes: a magnetic field generating unit, at least first and second super magnetostrictive members extensible in a longitudinal direction thereof due to action of magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generating unit, and a coupling member having a cylindrical shape and disposed coaxially between the first and second super magnetostrictive members. The second super mangetostrictive member has a cylindrical shape and is coaxially disposed to surround the outside of the first super magnetostrictive member in a radial direction thereof. Both end portions of the coupling member are coupled to one end portion of the first super magnetostrictive member and one end portion of the second super magnetostrictive member, respectively.

    • An energy station includes a generating unit and a separate remotely located dispensing unit. In one aspect, the generating unit includes a housing having a reformer for generating reformate from a fuel stream, and a storage unit for storing the reformate. The dispensing unit includes a housing for dispensing reformate from the generating unit. The generating unit is located at a first location and the dispensing unit is located at a second location away from the first location. For example, the generating unit may be located outside the building and the dispensing unit may be located inside a garage. Also disclosed is a generating unit having an electrochemical cell, which may be operated as either a fuel cell for supplying electricity to the building or a hydrogen pump for purifying the reformate.
