摘要： The present invention provides a method and architecture on how mobile stations (MS 132) are provisioned about information of an unlicensed mobile access (UMA) network controller (UNC 142). The UNC (142) in accordance with the present invention provides three different logical roles (i.e., provisioning (300), default (302) and serving (304)). More specifically, the present invention provides a method for assigning a mobile station (MS 132) to an unlicensed mobile access (UMA) network controller (UNC 142) in an unlicensed mobile access network (UMAN 102). The MS (132) is connected to a provisioning UNC (402) and discovers a default UNC (404). A serving UNC (406) is then determined to assign the MS (132) to and the MS (132) is assigned to the serving UNC (408). The serving UNC (620) can be the default UNC (612), the provisioning UNC (604) or another UNC.

Once the redirection counter has exceeded a certain value for a MS (132), the unlicensed network controller (UNC 142) will reject any registration request from that MS (132). More specifically, the present invention provides a method for limiting redirections of mobile stations (132) in an unlicensed radio access network (102) by initializing a redirection counter (1206), including the redirection counter in a registration request (1208), and incrementing the redirection counter each time a re-direct response is received in response to the registration request (1212).

摘要： A method for initiating a mobile originated call is described. An interface is established between a mobile station and a packet mobile switching center over a packet switched network. A call is initiated after the network accepts a service request from the mobile station. Packet switched domain resources for the call are requested from a Policy and Charging Rules Function. A voice bearer channel is established between the mobile station and an endpoint in the network when the requested resources are available. Bidirectional voice traffic is facilitated between the mobile station and the endpoint. In one embodiment, a method for initiating a mobile terminated call is described. An interface is established between a mobile station and a packet mobile switching center over a packet switched network. The mobile station is notified of an incoming call. Call setup is initiated. Packet switched domain resources for the incoming call are requested from a Policy and Charging Rules Function. A voice bearer channel is established between the mobile station and an endpoint in the network when the requested resources are available. Bidirectional voice traffic is facilitated between the mobile station and the endpoint. In another embodiment a call is established. A bearer is modified using a Policy and Charging Rules Function. The mobile station is signaled to modify parameters for the established call.

摘要： Cellular mobile networks can include unlicensed-radio access networks, which comprise access point controllers (303) connected via a fixed broadband network (302) to access points (301) that communicate with mobile stations (1) via unlicensed radio. The access points are connected to the broadband network from any location by the subscriber. In order to alleviate the configuration required to enable handover each access point controller is assigned to a location area defined in the conventional cellular network. A mobile station entering the mini-cell of an access point sends the access point information concerning the location area for the last cell of conventional network it communicated with. With this information, the access point obtains from a memory (40) the fixed broadband address of the access point controller assigned to this location area. The access point uses this address to establish a connection with the access point controller assigned to handle its current location.
