    • PURPOSE:To improve the sealing function of an outer peripheral bead and improve reliability by setting the spring constant of a bead formed at the outer peripheral edge part to be relatively smaller than that at the separated part, at the part where the bead approaches within a prescribed distance. CONSTITUTION:The height H of an outer peripheral bead 18 is set lower than the height H2 of other bead 17 at the part where other bead 17 in proximity exists, and set higher than the height H2 at the part where other bead 17 is close, at the part where other bead 17 in proximity does not exist, and the spring constant of the outer peripheral bead 18 is set small at the part where other bead 17 in proximity exists, and set large at the part where other bead 17 does not exist. Since the spring constant of the outer peripheral bead 18 can be varied according to the part where other bead 17 is close or not, the surface pressure due to the outer peripheral bead 18 can be made nearly equal at all parts independently of the existence of other bead 17 in proximity, and the sealing function of the outer peripheral bead 18 can be improved in comparison with that in the conventional.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of a joint face due to a bead and to ensure stable sealing ability on the whole of a metallic gasket by increasing the thickness of a seal film on the surface on the protrusion part side of a bead to a value higher than that of a seal film on the surface on the recessed part side of the bead. CONSTITUTION:First seal films 16a and 16b of a vulcanized rubber layer formed of vulcanized fluorine rubber are formed on both surfaces of a base plate 10. The first seal films 16a and 16b are a seal film adhered on the surface on the protrusion part 15a side of a bead 15 and the surface on the recessed part 15b side thereof, and a thickness t1a of the surface on the protrusion part 15a side of the bead 15 is increased to a value higher than a thickness t1a of the back thereof. Second seal films 17a and 17b of a non-vulcanized or unvulcanized rubber layer formed on both surfaces of the base plate 10 are adhered to the first seal films 16a and 16b, respectively. A thickness t2a of the surface on the protrusion part 15a side of the bead 15 of the second seal films 17a and 17b is increased to a value higher than a thickness t2b of the back thereof. This constitution prevents the top surface of the protrusion part of the bead from being exposed to damage a joint face and ensures stable sealing ability.

      SOLUTION: The metal gasket 1 is provided with a first gasket base plate 11 and a second gasket base plate 21. A stepped stopper 12 of U-shaped cross section circumferentially and continuously surrounding a combustion chamber bore 3 and a first bore bead 13 circumferentially and continuously surrounding the stepped stopper at an outer periphery side of the stepped stopper are formed on the first gasket base plate. A flat surface 21A is formed at a position superposed with the stepped stopper on the second gasket base plate, and a second bore bead 22 is circumferentially and continuously formed at a position superposed with the first bore bead. A sub-bead can be formed instead of the flat surface 21A, and an elastic member can be provided in a space formed by the stepped stopper and the flat surface 21A.
