    • A compound lathe in which a headstock is horizontally movable along a spindle axis to provide longitudinal feeding of a workpiece mounted for rotation with the spindle and a saddle carrying a turret is vertically movable to provide transverse feeding. The saddle is slidably disposed on vertical guideways which is formed on a column mounted on a bed at the back of the headstock rearwardly of cutting areas of the workpiece and which vertically extends in a plane parallel to the axis of the spindle. The turret supports tools for turning, milling, drilling and other operations. Numerically controlled servo motors preferably position the headstock and saddle. A secondary workpiece gripping means is provided to grip the end of the workpiece opposite the headstock and is releasably connected to the headstock for movement therewith. The gripping means allows accurate secondary machining of the cut-off portion of a parted workpiece by the tools on the turret.

    • A joint nozzle that delivers a developer, a rinsing liquid and nitrogen gas is disposed adjacent the spin center of a substrate in plan view. A controller operates electromagnetic switch valves to continue supply of the developer, while spinning the substrate, in a developing process, and to start supply of the rinsing liquid in a rinsing process, immediately after the supply of the developer ends, thereby achieving a shortened period of the developing process. A switching is made to a drying process by starting supply of the nitrogen gas immediately after completion of the rinsing process. Thus, even if the substrate has a large angle of contact, formation of droplets of the rinsing liquid is inhibited to prevent post-develop defects.

    • The present invention provides polypeptides composing epitopes of human centromere protein B, genes encoding therefor, plasmids or phages containing the genes, transformants obtained by introducing the plasmids or phages containing the genes, a method for producing the human centromere antigen polypeptide using the transformant, and a method for detecting anti-centromere antibody using the human centromere antigen polypeptide. Analysis of the above-mentioned epitope was accomplished using CENP-B gene obtained from a cDNA library prepared using mRNAs isolated from Jurkat cells. The present invention allows the production of the human centromere protein B epitope region in a large quantity, which in turn allows the detection of human anti-centromere antibody readily and precisely using the peptide obtained. Furthermore, it becomes possible to make a precise classification of the disease type of a patient having human anti-centromere antibody by determinations using each of the epitopes.

    • A rotary wafer drying apparatus comprises a rotatable rotor for applying centrifugal force to the wafers, and a motor for rotating the rotor. A pair of cradles, attached to the rotor, receive a plurality of wafers arranged vertically. When the wafers are to be dried, the cradles are rotated by about 90.degree. from the state of reception, with the wafers maintained approximately at the horizontal state. When wafers of different diameters are to be dried and the size of the cradles should be changed correspondingly, not the rotor itself but only the pair of cradles in the rotor are changed.
