摘要： A toner refilling method is disclosed for a process cartridge detachably mountable to a main assembly of an image forming apparatus. The process cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive member, a device for developing a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, a toner accommodating portion for accommodating toner to be used for development by the developing device, a cleaner for removing the toner remaining on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and a removed toner accommodating portion for accommodating the toner removed from the electrophotographic photosensitive member by the cleaner. The method includes digging a hole in the removed toner accommodating portion; discharging the toner accommodated in the removed toner accommodating portion through the hole dug in the removed toner accommodating portion by the first digging step; sealing the hole of the removed toner accommodating portion, after the discharging of the toner; digging a hole bridging over a separation member provided in the toner accommodating portion, to partition an inside of the toner accommodating portion; refilling toner into a first chamber and a second chamber formed by the separation member, through the hole dug in the toner accommodating portion by the second digging step; and sealing the hole dug by the second digging step, after the toner is refilled.

摘要： A developing device holder usable with a process cartridge detachably mountable to a main assembly of an image forming apparatus (the process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive member, a developing roller, and a developing frame for supporting the developing roller), wherein the developing device holder includes (i) an antenna contact mounting portion for mounting an antenna contact for transmitting an electric signal to a detecting device provided in the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus to notify mounting of the process cartridge to the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus, wherein the antenna contact mounting portion mounts the antenna contact so as to be exposed from the developing device holder when the developing device holder is mounted to the developing frame; and (ii) a guiding member for guiding the process cartridge when the process cartridge is mounted to the main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The guiding member is disposed at the same side as a side where the antenna contact which is mounted to the antenna contact mounting portion is exposed, and the developing device holder is mountable to the developing frame of the process cartridge.

The method includes the steps of dismounting a coupling member that couples a first unit and a second unit of the process cartridge so as to separate the first unit and the second unit; machining a connecting portion between a developing device frame of the second unit and a developer frame of the second unit so as to separate the developing device frame and the developer frame from each other without damage to dowels of the developer frame, the dowels are provided in a recessed portion for fitting into holes formed in a seal mounting plate of the process cartridge to thereby position and mount the seal mounting plate; mounting a seal that seals a developer supply opening provided in a developer accommodation portion to supply, to a developing roller of the process cartridge, developer accommodated in the developer accommodation portion; refilling a developer into the developer accommodation portion before or after the mounting step; and recoupling the first unit and the second unit using a coupling member.
